I dont know everything about space loot (as Im not MSW yet) but I like to think I know a very fair amount as I own a couple of the best loot parts on my server and Ive been spacing for quite some time. My style fits a HeavyX, B-wing, and Nova Courrier best for the various things I do up there (not into those tiny PvP ships till dogfights can last more than a 3 runs in a short game of "Chicken") but I would think the best way to go about getting the firespray disks would be to keep everything RE4 and above for crafting/selling/trading. I have yet to use anything RE5 or below as an Ace pilot as you can usually get RE5/6 parts light enough to really deck out even a low mass ship. RE3 and below you will have to get really lucky loot to make it worthwhile for an Ace that prefers 150K+mass ships. So just go up above corellia, head to the nearest opposing factional starbase and blow everything you see out of the sky. When your inventory is full, land, give your parts a lookover to see if you got lucky (probably not), RE everything while you stand right in front of that chassis dealer and sell it to him when you are finished. As an Ace pilot in tier 1 territory you shouldnt have any problems filling your inventory AND backpack with crap loot that nobody wants anyway in about 2 hours or lessif you happen to find a rapid respawn area. You might even help some noobs out and set aside a vendor for RE'd junk parts and sell everything for 500 creds. Noobs can buy it from you and go sell it to the chassis dealer for at least twice that, you get merchant XP (if you need it) or they can replace some other crap part on their crap ship lol. At least it wouldnt be a complete waist. If you like those JSF type ships it might be a different story but then again if you are good at flying those then you should probably already know what you need to do.

Personally I think that Kayl's original post was more constructive than the hundreds I've read of people asking for Chassis Vendors to no longer be able to buy loot. I mean if people were just throwing away junk then there would be no cry from shipwrights, but because people can sell great items for dirt cheap everyone has a problem with that.

Well now you have people throwing away good loot for another cause, but it's not money this time. All Kayl is saying is that those parts could be better spent. Different from the other example is that Kayl is not asking for anything in the game to be changed, but for people to take the time and see when they have a gem in thier pile of junk. Heck, I don't have a problem with people pointing out to me that I have something great that I thought was junk, I thank them and go sell it for MONEY!!!!

You people need girlfriends or something, lol.

Harsh? You bet it was. I'm a great Shipwright, with a business that isn't mass-production. (I do custom builds only, and I have no less than 8 houses dedicated to holding sorted loot, and I've been saving piecessince JtL launched.) I know what to look for in loot pieces, and anything that comes my way that's got the decent stat gets set up with others to match it.

So Kaylwants to educate? Fine. Sharing of information is always a good thing. But taking the "I'm acting like anjerk because I know I'm right" line doesn't impress me at all.

That said, it's also important to point out that I pay for my accounts, not Kayl. So he's got no right to pitch a fit over what I, or any other player does with their time in the game. If I want to cook off a L8 engine with YPR rates in the mid-70's because I have a customer begging me for a KSE Firespray, that's my right. It's none of Kayl's business. His little ranting and raving episodes show me nothing more than someone with mental and emotionalimmaturity and an acute failure to grasp the reality that SWG is a game, and these forums are just hisavenue for getting his ego stroked.

I have fanbois? News to me.

Also, I've tried being diplomatic before - it didn't work. Being an ass seems to get more people's attention, and be it positive or negative, attention is attention.

As others have said, I have no problem with SWs wasting the vast majority of loot on REs for discs, as the vast majority of loot sucks. I have a problem with the ones that take a "1 in 1000" part and pitch it away on a "1 in 1000" chance.

Message Edited by KaylBreinhar on 09-08-2005 06:06 PM

What does it matter to you? Oh wait, you're the be-all and end-all when it comes to RE knowledge, the self-proclaimed RE guru.

Gimme a break.

If you feel so neglected that you have to troll to get attention, do the rest of us a favor and get a dog. As others have mentioned, what players want to do with their loot is their business, and all you're doing is trolling for reactions. You're not telling any decent SW what they don't already know, and it's a slim chance your target audience will read what you have to scream at them and even if they do, they'll ignore you for being the petulant brat you are.

Do you *really* think a Master Shipwright on Chimaera (like myself for instance) give's a rat's ass what you have to say over there on Eclipse? Take your "Listen to Kayl he's right" fanboi/Amen Corner Crew and let them worship you elsewhere.

Wow, that's harsh man. I know Kayl's a little rough around the edges, but I don't think this response was neccessary either. MIght be a bit harsh, but understand the perspective of those of us that just plain don't like players coming in here and telling us how it should be done.

First, let's try to keep in perspective that this is merely a game. Personally, I play SWG to have fun. Where is the fun in having some facist jerkoff tell us how we should be having fun?

Second, there are principles involved here fundamental to humankind. I suggest that people that want to impose there views on others find a country that supports that kind of behavior and move there, and subsequently leave us all alone.

...What claim?

You're using quotation marks and noone in the thread to that point even posted the word "bad". Where washis claim?

You misinterpret my use of quotation marks. It was merely to encapsulate your original sentiment concerning the Firespray, and I quote,

QUIT BLINDLY WASTING RE PARTS IN PURSUIT OF A SHIP THAT NO LONGER FITS INTO THE REALISTIC STRATEGIC MAKEUP OF JTL. THE KSE HAD IT'S DAY, AND IT ENDED WHEN THE M22-T WAS INTRODUCED.

I interpretted this as "bad".

It wasn't MY sentiment, or Sar's for that matter. The Blindly RE'ing part, yeah; but personally I still have a place for the Firespray(and it's not a garbage heapOR a display mantle, lol). He just said that there wasn't that big of a demand for them(I've only sold one, and that wasa day or 2 ago,of all days, lol).

Personally, for one, I think it has a nice PvP ability(usually the side of the Firespray that's downplayed), with it's wide spread on the guns.

But the point is that it's so much easier to get one than most seem to realize, particularly if they turned in some of those parts that end up in the trash after they're ruined.

A LOT of pilots I think don't even have the slightest clue what Reverse Engineering is, or what it can do. Heck, even one the supposed "Best" pilots on my server had to have it explained to him just recently. I was absolutely shocked.

From my perspective, sure, it's a waste and it DOES hit me in the gut when I see some of these atrocities, but on TOP of that: Would they have done that if they KNEW what they were doing? I highly doubt it. A lot of this is not about FORCING anyone,or attacking them; it's about education, letting them know the value of things.

Just out of curiosity, are you one of the people that goes to Mos Eisley and offers 100k to new players for their BARC's?

If someone is Reverse Engineering 8 Quantum Ion Drives together, for the purpose of getting KSE disks, you KNOW it's not because it's what they WANT to do; it's a lack of information in their hands.

Is it wrong to tell them, "See that 110 Speed Level 10 engine that has a reverse engineering level? You could give that to paladon and get a firespray and enough money to buy ANOTHER one if that one breaks down."; or is it worse to have them struggling collecting disks, maybe paying rediculous prices for garbage parts, doing it at all levels instead of the simplest and fastest ones, when they haven't specialized in it for nearly as long as some others?

It's bad to get cheated by other people, but why cheat yourself? I don't buy that they would.

(btw, IIscandar, if you AREactually reading this, I suggest you actually sticky Tomo's RE guide; seems it's not good enough as just a link)

I have to admit, it kills me to see a superb part RE'ed with complete garbage, but I think most of it happens because of either not knowing what they're looking at or because it takes quite a bit of time to go through parts looking for the top-notch ones. There are people that don't care, but far be it from me to tell anyone what to do (I know of someone who sometimes buys good CAs just to destroy them...go figure). If they get the part before I do and RE it with trash, then I didn't work hard enough at telling pilots that some of that "stuff that fills their inventory" may be worth more credits than they realise.

I agree with the education sentiment 110%, though. I try to educate as many people as I can as to what to look for in loot. Many don't want to be bothered, so I offer for them to drop it on my vendor and I'll sort through it and put any of the things that are worth keeping in packs with their names on it so that they have the option later to have it RE'ed for their uses. One person ended up liking pilot so much, he made his alt a shipwright and wanted the parts back so he could RE some nice stuff for himself (with some advisement since he's still somewhat new to loot stats) If they don't take me up on my offer, so be it...not much I can do about that and at least I tried, but I hope they remember my words to them when they see my ships in action...hehehe.

I can't speak for the OP, but I would ask (not tell) that a shipwright that's trying to get a Firespray made at least look at the loot first and offerthe good partsto someone like myself or another person who seeks out quality loot instead of just trashing it. I know that I'd happily trade a ton of junkers from my storage vendors for one great loot part (or trade some KSE disks, for that matter). As for the uneducated that junk great parts, it's us loot junkies' job to educate them as to what they have and what to look for, in my opinion. If we don't, then we only have ourselves to blame if some new/unknowing pilot hands a great part to the chassis dealer or someone who doesn't care about the quality.
