Greetings fellow Shipwrights,

Most of us have been doing this profession for a bit now and I am sure we can all benefit from unique selling ideas for our Galactic Shops. I know that many of us run shops and sometimes it gets boring looking at your vendors wondering, what can I do to spice this place up? Well here is one of my ideas that of course has been though of before but no one has actually done it.This is surprisingly hard to do but rewarding.

The idea is called Ship in a Bag. I am sure many are familiar with the concept. You make a chassis and outfit it with all the parts and put it in a bag for sale. This has been done masterfully by Armorsmiths with their full suits of armor in a bag, so why shouldn't us SWs.

Example.

SHIP IN A BAG - LEGENDARY SERIES

Scyk Fighter (Heavy), Tie Fighter (Heavy) and Z95 Fighter (Heavy)

1 x Heavy Mass Fighter [ need 1 1 0 0 pilot skill to fly ]

2 x Armor

1 x Booster

1 x Capacitor

1 x Droid Interface

1 x Engine

1 x Reactor

1 x Shield

1 xProton IILauncher

1 x Missile Pack

1 x (Red) Laser Weapon

The parts are all Mark II or Cert 3 usable. Quick and Easy for any new or faction/squadron changing ACE. The pilots gain skills and simply buy Mark III and IV parts as they level to ACE ( all available at my shop ). The ship is 90k mass as you all know and makes a great gift idea for friends wanting to get others to fly.

I have this idea for a long time but never really took the time to make them until recently, and the response is amazing.Perhaps something like this would benefit your shop in your Galaxy? Now,what ideas have you come up with that you see is spicing up your sales or giving a unique touch to your shop?I think that sharing ideas would benefit us all. I know they will benefit me greatly as I look to more ideas in the future.

I was just discussing this very idea a couple days ago on another board: http://www.dreamlab.cc/forums/showthread.php?t=586. I recieved some good feedback, I believe it would work very well, especially on the lower few tiers.

Great discussion on that board.

I normaly do Ship in a Bags before on a custom level. Customer wanted a decimator and all parts, or a JSF. Now I am actually putting them on the vendor to make it easier on those type of ships. The next Ship in a Bag will be the ELITE parts POB S.I.B. which should be fun to make and expensive... LOL.

Aside from that I am surprised that no shipwrights are putting ideas or things they have done to spice up their shop. I know all of you guys are creative so not sure what the problem is? Oh well....guess it takes a bit for some to put their ideas in writting.

While this will works for lower Tiers it does not not work for higher ones for two reasons. First, the pilot is usually giving up a chassis to move up and has alot of the parts he needs. Second all armor is pretty much the same. Ships on the other hand, contain a great deal of variation and pilots have different styles. This affects how they equip their ships and they are constanly comparing components to tweak it just so. I remember a pilot that thought I was nuts because I put a RE'd level 1 reactor in his JSF. It had 12.5k gen and was light as a feather. It allowed me to place 2 Mark IV blasters and good engines and shields.

I still say the best ship for at least the first two tiers of privateer is the Dunelizard. Maybe only in T3 would the extra mass of the Syck allow you to add beefier armor/shields plus a better weapon before moving onto a Bel-22 for 4333 and on (yeah I know, boo to cheap overfarmed ship deeds)...

Before that the dual mounts are better as is the DL's smaller hitbox and overall size.

Hand craft every freakin part and you got time to decorate? Nice.

Anyways, I and a few known shipwrights on Radiant have done this. Mostly we get UNhappy customers...saying, why did we include a missile launcher? I chucked this out and I went to another SW and got better armor then you sold me! This has generally either required a lot of explaining on how to set up their ships, or just a loss of a customer (and we all know how that feels...)

Doesn't work for us, but nifty idea. If armorsmiths had 20 different iterations of a bracer, and could sub it for better leggings, would you be happy with a pot luck Armor in a bag?

Hehe. Yes to the previous poster, it is harder to make bags for us.

The good thing about Heavy Variants of the newbie ships is that they have 90k mass and will function well up to the 4 3 3 3 box where the JSF can be obtained for the 2 guns.

As for other type of ships, the best thing for Ship in a Bag is go with the ships like Decimator and YT-1300 that have enough mass for you to plug in all the Mark V parts. In general most Pilots want the same thing for a ship part. This is evident each time when you make a custom order or get questions from pilots. So what you going for here is not a bag that will benefit one perticular pilot, but one that can be used by all Pilots of that rank.

As always, the customer has the right to offer the item back to me and I will buy that back. Satisfaction Guarantee works well when you know its not coming back... LOL.

You would have to be a very trusting soul to pay what I charge for a fully equipped Master ship in a bag, sight unseen. Let's see 750k for the ship 150k per Mark V component.... Heck, that adds up to some real money. lol Don't think I would spend that much on a bag of unknown components. Might end up with a Dunelizard will Mark II equipment.

Fortunately on my server people trust in my business. Most have shopped with me since I created my Shop name back when I sold what I mined with my BER 1 and 2 Extractors. The same goes for all other business people on the Crafting forums, When people shop Vuduu, MTO Armor, BioTech, LEGENDARY, Reddawn, etc etc on my server, They know each of those crafters stands by their products and what they place in their bags.

Don't get me wrong, I have seen and experience crafters that are not so honest. The community seems to take care of those people swiftly.

I am doing kits like these and experience successful sales. None of my customers have complained so far, and I am on Starsider.
