Thread: Shipwrighting and Foods
I know that Crafting Mastery and the FS crafting branches do not apply to ship building - but has the use of crafting foods been confirmed to have a beneficial effect on experimentation results?
I tried using Bespin Port last night about 5 out of 10 times, and I noticed that I had no critical failures while using it. But mind you, my little experiment wasn’t exhaustive by any means.
I've preciously also used Foods and it didn't appear to make any difference.
As for the Force Crafting; I really really hope that Craft Mastery does effect Shipwrighting (as I'm 0404) but have had my doubts.
I'm not even sure that now I'm crafting in a Research Center if that is effecting my crafting outcomes.
/sigh
While I have a few unkind words to say about this, I can boil it down to two words: Why Not?

I use Pylloian Cake to increase my chance of a successful assembly. Yes, it works. It increases your chance of a "great success" or "amazing success", which typically gives you higher range of experimentation on stats.
I use Bespian Port to increase my chance of successful experimentation. Yes, it works.
Finally, I obtain an inspiration buff before crafting, which increases my chance of successful experimentation.
Bespin Port is supposted to give you extra Experiementation Points... not increase your chances.
Try your own test... make four identical items with identical resources: The cake should make your intial results greater (13% instead of 12%) and the Bespin Port should give you extra Experiemental Point or two (look at the description of the Port.
Thats' how I did my test; and while it wasn't 100 items each with and with-out, the four that I did were no different then the four I used without any food nor drink.
And I always get 'great' or 'amazing' successes (which end results appear to be no different from each other) since I've been a master shipwright and using good tools (which amazenly seem to help).

you couldnt be more wrong on bespin port if you tried. Bespin port gives you additional chances to do better during an experiment.. much like having +20 in FS experimentation does. There are no additional points granted to it. Now that they coded dimenishing retuns in, food has less help as you climb the FS tree. I am 4100 FS crafting mastery. I get nothing but great and amazing successes, if I stick to spending 1 point at a time Its practically every other experiment I get an amazing on. Bespin port did not seem to increase this at all.
I use Pylloin (sp?) cake and Bespin Port when I am making something special that takes a lot of expensive resources. Especially master-level or tier-4 chassis or anything using asteroid resources. I think do hit more amazing successes this way, although I have not collected a lot of statistical evidence to support it.

the fundamental flaw of crafting food is filling. Bespin port has 3 controls on it to limit your use of it.
1) 15 min timer, in 15 min the effect has worn off
2) filling, you can only eat about 8 of these before you have to wait 30min to empty your stomach
3) single experiment .. not even all experiments for the life of a single craft.. but a single experiment.
for non SW this was annoying but once you got the schematic made you could make 1000 replica. This limited you to 1 schematic per 30min.
for SW, because we cant make schematics, this prettymuch limits us to 1 item every 30min if we were to make use of this food at all.
honestly I see NO reason why it cant be just like many other foods that give you a bonus for 15 min like air cake etc. What is the harm of making the modifier stick around for 15min? If we didnt have so many other issues I would definitely say this should make the list of SW issues just for the fact that this change brings more crafter-to-crafter commerse to the game and that the bonus is only enough to avoid ruining some hard to get resources or special enhancers.

You are wrong. It increases your chance of success. There never has been a food that increases the number of experimentation points you have--if this were the case, all of us shipwrights would be fatter than Jabba the Hutt.

I agree with you--this really irritates me. It should work like an inspiration buff. However, it doesn't, and that's why I have our local chef make me cake and port with as low a stomach filling stat as possible.
