For one thing, you've made a huge mistake thinking that the Y-8 was designed to mine. It is the absolute WORST mining ship in the game, sorry. Even if you get the lasers and turrets to work - it is near impossible to actually get the ship to maneuver properly along with your crew who are lagging a second or more behind you to collect the resources. I've been wondering if the Devs ever tried mining with their mining ship when they designed it...
You'll be better off grabbing a free ship off the pilot trainer and using that to mine with.
Either way, all the new components are not going to be worth making compared to Mark V - they still do not have a UT stat which makes anything you craft with asteroids severely gimped when you experiment.
Wierd, I had no problems mining in it over the weekend, apart from the occasional asteroid not dropping. Both mining lasers (top turret & pilot controlled) worked fine.
As for being near impossible to maneuver properly I was able to use it to dogfight the asteroid bandits that attack from time to time, and thats with an engine that only has about 55 YPR.
even at the most efficient method of using this ship... I can mine 6x faster if the 3 crewman flew xwing w/ cargo holds and this includes the time it takes to land, unload, launch and re-overdrive all the components. There is absolutely no advantage to this ship. I can fill a 1550 size cargo hold w/ my xwing inside of 10min. It takes a LOT longer than this in the y-8 without doing something entirely rude and inconsiderate like blasting 300 large chunks off hte asteroid causing crashes, lag and every other game offending behavior you can imagine. There needs to be a special tractor beam that lets the Y-8 tractor in the very large chunnk that breaks off. This will yeild higher results than the smaller pieces and give a purpose to 3 people working in a single ship than 3 individual fighters. There has to be a financial type incentive aka more productivity. Why in the world would you use a y-8 if it was 6x faster the other way not to mention 3 xwing can defend against pirates 1000x better than a solo y-8 w/ 3 crewmembers.
Some troubleshooting questions I usually ask my customers:
- Have you equipped your ship with a weapons capacitor? I'm not implying your stupid or anything like that, sometimes players think they have equipped something and low-and-behold they haven't.
- With deference to the first question, have you ensured that you have indeed equipped the laser?
- Does the weapons capacitor you have equipped have enough energy for the weapon?
- Does the reactor have high enough output to power everything you have equipped.
The problem is the Y-8, but to use the laser put it in weapon 2 that is the pilot controled weapon on my Y-8.
So far only the pilot can break off chunks of the astroid not anybody in the turrets, and then only the pilot can break up the chunks. Turret is there for the tractor beam. That is what I have been using it for.
Big thing is the Y-8 is a lousy mining ship

I made the Elite laser to throw on my mining ship. Trouble is it dosent seem to do anything to the asteroid. I have tried on a bunch and it never casues any medium asteroids to break off. Seems to be completely broken. Anyone else have this prob or am i unique.
This isn't only a problem with the y-8, It happens to me all the time in my X-wing witha mark I mining laser, and a mark II, I usually just keep shooting until it despawns, then the one that comes usually breaks off pieces.

Well, there might be one last problem.
TC is several patches behind live. I loaded up my Y-8 with all the required equipment and a Elite mining cannon. I couldn't get the astroid to take any damage. did the examine thing too.If you on TC, you still have all the bugs since the ROTW went live. Live however doesn't have all the bugs.
