Thread: Shug's Spacebarn

I am currently reading the Han Solo trilogy. Besides the fact that it is some of the best Star Wars EU I've read to date, I wanted to relate to the community something from this trilogy.

Han Solo started his smuggling career on Nar Shaadaa (a.k.a., Smuggler's Moon). He spends most of his time on Nar Shaadaa in the Corellian District where he hooked up with this guy named Shug Ninx. Shug is a master ship technician and has his place referred to as Shug's Spacebarn. Traders, pirates, smugglers and the like bring their ships to Shug for repairs and tweaking of all kinds. He'll even let you work on your ship in the Spacebarn, as long as you follow some basic rules.

So, as I'm reading this I remember IIScander mentioning that he's pushing the devs for a structure that only Master Shipwrights can place which would resemble a hanger and hold 800 items (or something thereabouts). But I want somethinglike a Shug's Spacebarn; that is, I want to be able to pull out a ship and "work on it". I don't mean some crazy terminal--I meanthe structure wouldcontain an areathat you or a customercould pull out a ship and it would be there, right beforeyour eyes. Once there, a shipwrightcould"workon" the ship, swapping out components, simulating various droid commands, etc. The customer couldsee the work as it progressed. All this could be donein asecure manner; that is,the shipwright couldn't ripoff the customer and visa versa (this could probably be done in a manner similar to the theparadigm used forimage designing).

The item limit on the "Spacebarn" would need to be high, so as to give usa place to set-up shop and store all our resources. Personally, I think it should have a built-in equipment factory as well.

Scale them down, or make it a big hangar.

Well, I spent some time thinking about this. I think you don't allow POB to be pulled out in the spacebarn. However, I thought about it more and don't like this idea. Mainly because someone had the good idea to allow POB to be portalized right there in the spacebarn--the boarding ramp would come down and everything. You could walk in, walk out, have a party, tinker, load items, unload items, etc, etc, etc.

This would be a wicked great idea, only problem i see is the building would have to be HUGE. and space is limited around lots of SW's shops due to sprawl. BUT it would be a great idea, and jagged, you would have a place to store my YT-1300 to show it off to costomers since you built the whole thing lol.

I don't have a problem relocating so that I may have a spacebarn like Shug Ninx's. This is an acceptable sacrifice.

I still wonder if we are just dreaming but here is the proposal I put forth. If you look at the state of the shipwright profession post I put in the "give your input on shipwright bugs and issues" issues thread. There are a couple of other ideas in there as well to make it easier and more immersive for the shipwright/customer experience.
Suggestion 3: Create a Starship Hanger structure. This special building would allow a player’s ship to be worked on in a traditional monkey wrench kind of way. This might be difficult with the larger ships such as YT-1300, but could be possible. It would need to be the size of a generic guildhall with both floors above ground and opened as one giant space. Not only would this allow the same interaction with the pilot’s ship as a terminal, but would also grant both the shipwright and the pilot the ability to see the ship on the ground. This would also allow for a very starwarsy walk around your ship experience. It could also provide a preview of texture kits, and or paint kits. These buildings could have a high storage limit (500 – 1000) items and a “master shipwright” only requirement. When a shipwright is present in their hanger, they can register on the planetary map as open for business. Players could see right away where to go to have their ships customized.

I like this idea... if I'm guessing right about how many lots this thing would take up, the idea of an integrated equipment factory is a very good one... afterall it is our "workshop" and plenty big enough to reasonably accomodate the equipment. That, and we still need our harvester lots...
