i'm looking to change how i have my goods separated, so i was wondering what shipwrights on other servers did
right now i use 4 vendors:
ship chassis
consumables
crafted parts
re'd components
having only one ship chassis is fine, but i'd like to split up my crafted parts, but i can't decide whether to go by level (and join them with the consumables) or by type
ideally i'd like to have only 6 vendors max, the tent is pretty crowded as it is

I use 8 total (9 with my storage vendor):
OK Space Droids and Programs (order droids from a DE to keep stock, pay people to program chips for me)
OK Chassis and Reactors
OK Weapons and Launchers
OK Missles and CMs
OK Engines and Boosters
OK Armor and Shields
OK Capacitors and Droid Interfaces
OK Paint, Texture, and Repair Kits (get a master artisan to make an all-purpose repair kit schematic)
Can you tell my shop is 'OK Shipwright'? Heh.
I wanted to consolidate two to free up one for RoTW components, but I just throw the parts I make on the most appropriate vendor (mining lasers-> weapons, body mods->chassis)
If you're looking to go to 6 max vendors, I suggest something like this:
Chassis
Weapons, Launchers, Missles, and CMs
Engines and Boosters
Armor and Shields
Reactors, Capacitors, and DIs
Paint, Texture, Repair, Programs

I just dump em all on the same vendor, personally. It's pretty easy for customers to sort by type these days, and besides, when there's a few pages of moderately priced standard gear up next to my ludicrously priced RE'd stuff, I'd hope it gives the customer some perspective on why things are priced as they are.
SandLizard's suggestion for a 6-vendor setup looks great, though, nice and logical.

I'm actually really thinking about doing this actually, but am worried about the vendor limit being an issue. I suppose I could keep enough in 000x merchant to keep a higher vendor limit, but then I have the vendors already also. Dunno, I guess I don't really see myself needing much more than about 1200 items total (droid programs, paint, and texture kits are the killer here, along with my 'storage' vendor). It would make it much easier to make sure I sell it on the right vendor, I accidentally put items on the wrong vendor occasionally, heh.

i ended up going with 5 vendors:
chassis - chassis, paint, strakes, etc
weapons systems - blasters/cannons/disruptors, capacitors, missiles/launchers
defense systems - armor, shields, droid interfaces, ordinances/launchers
propulsion systems - engines, boosters, reactors
re'd components - i like to keep these separate
i will probably add a consumables vendor for paint kits, ordinance packs, missile packs, and programming chips (if i can get a de friend to make them for me) i am just waiting on the xp to place one more vendor
thanks for the input, helped me get started making a decision

One vendor. But then again I only sell chassis/deeds, paint/texture/strakes/winglet kits, and that sort of thing.
Interestingly enough, people almost never buy the deeds, even if I price them less than the equivelant blueprints. It's a shame they aren't in the "chassis" category too.

I use a 6 vendor setup.
Chassis + Paint/Texture Kits
Armor and Shields
Reactors, Engines & Boosters
Weapons & Capacitators
Missiles & Anti-Missiles + Ammo
Droid Interfaces + Programmed Chips.
RE'd parts go on the appropriate vendor.

I don't either. The deeds I have up for sale are ones I used myself, mostly, or in some cases picked up for practically nothing on the bazaar.

I place "kits" on my chassis and components vendor, and both sell well. People get them when they get a ship, and when people buy components, they see my kits and buy some then it seems (if they don't buy a ship). Covers all bases
