SPACE STATIONS!
We need to be able to build player-controlled space stations that are built and operated like guild halls, but in space. It would get more people in space, and allow people to work out of space and feel like they're going back to a home. It would also be fun to turn it into things, such as casinos, hotels, restaurants, etc. There could be security systems installable and you can buy NPCs to operate certain things.
They be just plain fun to dock at, as well. You'd pull your ship up, dock (after getting permission from the administrator, or if they left an NPC in charge. SO MANY POSSIBILITIES!
I think it would add a whole new level to the game!

But...that's two words...
Other than that I whole heartedly agree. Bring on the POB stations (just make sure to instance the interiors as to not lag out the surrounding space zone)

JTL lacksany substantial interaction with other players. A space station would allow us to interact with other players and heal/buff while in space without the need to go to the loading screen.

Perhaps this would be a good way to introduce the Shipwright hanger structure. Some areas of space could be set for hanger station creation. I'd like it on the ground, but something in space... I like that .. a lot.

Not only would it be extremely fitting for the shipwright hangar idea, but it fits the continuity of starwars, seeing as most the major starship production lines were done in orbital shipyards. Kuat Drive Yards for example. If a station simply for a shipyard purpose is overkill(after all we'd end up with a few hundred of these stations cluttering up space rather quickly), why not take the Avatar platform as an example and make it an advanced form of player city - in addition to including shipyard features.
Ontop of that, seeing how various city types offer various bonuses, orbital facilities should offer a bonus to starship chassis assembly allowing the heaviest mass for each variant to be acheived at these stations. This would also be logical, as much heavier components could be manipulated to create the ship, whereas on the ground the components would have to have a fraction of the mass in order to be worked with.
Instead of sectioning off a region of space - most space zones are small enough as it is, perhaps an 'orbital facility' zone or something similar could be established for each planet, essentially a space sector with few asteroids, and no stations other than the basic landing station, and maybe a few npc ships - patrols, some pirates of appropriate tier for the planet, and of course transports. This could be accessed from any neutral space station via /comm much in the manner of kessel or deep space, and would be lotted much how planets are - you'd find a spot, use a deed, and a cube would appear from a third person viewpoint to allow you to place the station.
Maybe components could be repaired without decay - only by shipwrights - at their stations within these zones.
All a great idea (like EQ's bazaar in space.....) but maybe a bit complicated to actually get working. I know I"d move my shipwright to an orbital facility immediately and only use ground to keep my harvesters running. Takes my harvesters starting to decay to pull me out of space anyways most the time.

Oh no, but that doesn't align well with the Shug's Spacebarn concept

/agree... I'd prefer it on the ground, but in space might be cool and certainly better than nothing
