Thread: An idea to even out Reverse Engineering

Ok so i think by now we all know that Reverse Engineering yields parts that in many cases are far superior than stuff we could ever craft. Half my ship is made up of RE'd stuff and I'm a shipwright, I find it kind of embarassing. It is also kind of stupid if you ask me, I mean why can a disrupter and an ion cannon be combined. Here is my idea:
RE would work as normal just with one additional step, after you input the items and hit analyze component a new box would come up. This box would contain a list of the items you put in the tool and their stats. From this list you would pick ONE of the components you put in and that components would get the x% increase, x being the number of components you put in. If it were done this way I would even say increase the % to two points per part, so at level 10 you are getting a 20% increase. This way we dont Ion/disrupter lasers and capacitors that recharge at level 2 faster than a mark 5 and have twice the capacity.
The problem now is that people are getting the best of everything leaving us with less and less to sell. People will eventually figure out what they can do with REing and will start to weed out the good parts and start coming to us primarily to RE. I really have no interest in becoming like a smuggler, where my primary job is slicing.
Lastly i would advise selling good RE'd comonents on your vendors if you dont already do so, these have sold very well for me. It also makes you look better in your customers eyes, if they see you acknowlegeing there is stuff better than what you can craft and offering it. As far as pricing I try to offer Re'd comps at about the same price as a equivalant crafted part.

The RE process went through serveral phases, First it was each stat was averaged and then a random bonus of 1-12% per stat was applied, Then it was all stats are averaged and a bonus based on item level was added, lastly it was as it is now, best stat from any part inside plus the minor bonus % based on level. The problem is not Loot and how it's RE'd the problem is that loot values and crafted values are so different, they need to take a big look at the min and max values of loot level by level and compare to crafted gear and adjust one or the other, preferably the crafted, RE'ing as it stands is fine, its' just silly that I can loot an 1800 reactor drain shield but can't make one no matter how hard I try.

I guess my main issue with this is items that get two important stats to absurd values: weapons with armor and shield effectiveness at over .60, capacitors and shields with high recharge and high energy capacity and shield stats. Not only can't we craftt these, but I dont think we should be able too. There needs to be some kind of balance, I really dont want this to tunr into WS where there is only one line to exp on that matters, right now there are 3-6 for every comp at least. I like that, nor doI want to get rid or ion cannons or disruptor entirely, who is goign to wnat an ion cannon when we can RE a laser to be just as good at both.
