Thread: Shipwright and the Economy

One of the great things about this game is that the economy, or at least what the majority of things cost is player driven. Alot of people have been calling for changes in Shipwright to reduce the cost of ships. I have seen both pilots and Shipwrights asking for this. I can understand the pilots requesting it, it dosn't affect them in any but a positive way. However, I think we need to operate on more of a wait and see philosophy.

This is still a new profession, now one here can say with any real clarity what prices are going to be in a few months. We don't know ifin afew weeks down the road if space mission terms will be added. They havealready added a huge money maker in chassis dealers buying loot.Additionally the only way for the devs to do anything is to reduce the resource costs of each component. The devs cant force us to sell lower or force miners to sell for 1cpu.

I think it is important that before we beg for changes, we give ourselves enough time to let things stabilize. I think realistically it will be a month or even two before we see a real slow down. Until then charge what you think is right 1cpu for chassis or 10cpu for a chassis. Either way it helps, in a couple months those that are still in business will know what works.

I think, just like everything else in this game...anybody can and will charge as they desire.

bottome line = supply and demand.

Also, have you ever considered how much it costs to make a "buff" or a "republican blaster" or some "canape" and see what the associated cost looks like?

You'll be amazed..shipwright isn't overpiced at all.

My alt isa weaponsmith, not a 12pt Ws either. I was always one of the cheaper WSs on my server that was selling quality stuff. Even tehn I was selling for like 25-40 cpu. Shipwright, my highest stuff is 15cpu and that is components. So yeah I agree, if we are talking cost to make we are not everpriced.

My primary point is that we need to let prices level off, up or down before we start asking for changes.

Huh?

Ships DO NOT need to be cheaper. My God, man... it's the ultimate vehicle!

It's just a bunch of power-players whining.

I can take my NON-master-elite combat character and grind out 150-200k in a single buff session, completely solo, not solo-grouped. As a shipwright, I sell my *junk* Tier 1 chassis at 125k. So, for a mere 3 hours of effort, I can buy my own ship, and outfit it with equivalent components. This means that anyone can get into space for less than half a day's effort. Can you buy a boat in RL on what you earn in half a day? And I don't mean a little Sunfish... a boat of substantial size... something you could mount a deck gun on?

I don't think so.

Ship costs are fine where they are. What the miners get paid should set the scale for the entire economy, and it does. What kills me are the bozos that think they shouldn't pay themselves for mining and end up selling ships for less than I can buy the resources to make it. (Fortunately, I promptly buy all of their ships and re-sell them at the prices they should be at.)

Exactly..that is Exactly what each and everynew player needs to know.

I don't know about that - we are seeing Tier 1 ships going unsold on the vendors for 5k and 6k as the grinders work through their levels. Most of these will remain unsold as people power-level up the trees so that they can do the more interesting missions.

Components seem to be the real money spinners, with me making more from missiles and spacebombs than from anything else. It's funny but people will happily pay 200k for 12 spacebombs, but will baulk at paying 200k for a Longprobe.

Everything is fine, and running smoothly with SW and the economy IMO...

Shipwrights: First two weeks some were complaining about no factory support - "Waahhh we have to handcraft everything, waahhh!"

The majority of those complainers soon realized they wouldn't have enough material to make all the schematics they would need anyways. So, what's a possible solution to this? Complain about the resource requirements in an attempt to get them lowered. If they were lowered, then the nofactory support issue would be brought back front and centre. It's the same people complaining if you ask me, sneaky bunch of players tsk-tsk

Pilots: I myself am a resource seller and fairly avid contributor to swgcraft so I may be biased some (I travel a lot). But I enjoy saving 75-100k a week in shuttle costs, and not missing a shuttle take off by mere seconds. I would think most pilots end up recouping at least half their chassis costs in a couple of weeks, by saving in transport fees. Free travel needs to be taken into consideration, pilots

credits are easy to come by though....i agree we have a good thing going....i sell chassis at 5cpu and components are 15-20 or so....dont have my list in front of me haha...but I think if people are around thoe numbers tehre shouldn't be any problems. Someone will spend 12k on a buff to last 3hrs but complains at the price of 5k for a mid grade ion cannon....i think teh cannon will outlast the buff...alot of people aren't taking into account we hand make everything...er...well 95% of things i guess.
