Thread: Making Repair kits desirable (a suggestion)

Currently, all starship parts repair kits do the same job as most space stations repair facilities, and the stations charge one low price and is easy to use. Stations also repair everything in one click. This makes the purchase and use of a crafted repair kit a hassle.

Here's my proposal that could change all that, and make more of an income and repeat businessfor Shipwrights...

In a nutshell, using a crafted repair kit on a ship, will yield less decay. And, if a Shipwright of a sutible level (tier 1 SW with only tier 1 ships. master SW only on msater ships and below) uses the repair kit, the decay is even lesser than that.

This concept goes along the lines of:

- repair at station = 10 points decay on damaged part that is repaired(this is standard right now on all componets in live)

- repair with repair kits = 5 points decay (this is new, and will promote sales of kits from shipwrights)

- a shipwright makes the repair with a repair kit = 1 decay (SW can charge for services!, and having a SW in battle would be a huge plus!)

The end result of this might be along the lines of howDoctors are reguarded to PvP and PvE ground game players. Repair kits are easy to make in quantity, lower on resources. A lot of players ONLY use looted parts, they'll need these services as well, if not more! Shipwrights that hang around starports will have long lines awaiting quick repairs...and you can not only charge for the kit whatever you think is the market value at the time (is that composite armor that pilot is wearing? hmmm), but also charge forthe service of doing the repair yourself!

All thoughts and questions are appreciated...

thanks for your time, SW's.I wouldn't be in space without you...

Apart from the fact, that I do not like standing at the starport and dealing with a line of customers, that idea would work for me. Maybe the numbers would need to be tweaked a litte. Instead if 10% 5% 1% something like 10% 7% 5% might work better...

Anyway, even more preferable would be in space repairs done by a shipwright. Just dock with another player, select the repair kit, and off you go. I would really like something along those lines.

And the same is true for docs. Would be a lot better, if they were drawn into combat instead of working as buffbots.. I guess, shorter buff durations would do that job .

I like this. Also something that may be cool is something like how the doc's can take mind damage to cure wound let SW take Wound damage to do a repair on a ship even with out a kit. Make it a 1 for 1 ration. This would make the repair a last resort but somthing a SW can do.

I would love though if they made the kits use full. Other then a Multi pansiger ship it is use less. Maby alow them to be used in a fighter as well. Something like if can fix compasitor and droid interface. After all arto did fix lukes x-wing a little in battle.

just get ride of spacestation repairs. i hita bug two days ago where Lok station wouldn't repair me. so i landed since i was fully disabled, made the repair kits, did a quick repair, not a full repair. jumped into space, still no repair from Lok, hypered over to Naboo, and yet again no repair.

Didn't kill my game for me. repair kits work just fine. The station not repairing me didn't kill the game for me, just provided more of a challange to get back into space. No station repair = big sales in repair kits. and novice can make them. the minimal is 800 because my failures all went to that number, never lower but i almost got a 1k repair kit, and i had crappy resources too. i might be a 0 off but you get the idea.

Yes, the numbers do need a lot of work, and the 10%-7%-5% sounds good too.

I still think we need the station repair options. I just wanted to make getting to know a shipwright, would be advantagous to a pilot. The stations are for those pilots who have no time to land andwait, don't want to get a shipwright, or can't find one in the time needed.

Right now, it's easier to never speak to a Shipwright after you purchase your ship. You can always repair the ship in space without landing. I strongly think that Shipwrights and spaceflight need to be tied together, other than being just a guyyou visit on the ground once in a great while.

Shipwrights having the ability to dock and repair ships...an interesting proposal i'm gonna have to think out. Game balance is everything. Having this ability is very dangerous, although very cool in concept. I don't want to see a billion shipwright/pilot templates like we do TKA/fencer. Having a shipwright onboard a MP ship able to do a better job at repairs than any other class, would be fine. It's would be good for anyone if you could repair a single player ship in space, due to either the pilot being a shipwright, or a shipwright docking with the in need of repair ship.

And i also had another thread elsewhere (pilot forum)about ships docking to a MP ship and crossing over. Both ships, (single to MP or MP to MP) could ask for a dock, much like joining a group, or a trade window confermation. Docking will commence. All MP ships already have a docking door of sorts. Ships must remain still while attached. Idf a plaer from one ship enter to another, the owner of the host ship can "toss" the "guest" back to his ship from the permissions terminal (to prevent griefing and unwanted guests). Perhaps they should also not be able to recharge the capacitor, to prevent to ships docking and firing two sets of guns .

Just a thought...more to come. Thanks for the comments!
