Thread: SW question about reverse engineering

I am interested in trying the SW prof, but I dont think I will have the skill points to master it. Is it possible to do fun things if you only dabble? Or is it like many of the crafting professions where you can't really do much until master level?

Specifically, I am intrigued by the reverse engineering thing. Can I do this with only novice (or a few boxes) of SW, and would it give anything good at all? It might be fun to try to get a few SW boxes if this could be done. OTOH if you have to get to master level before reverse engineering, then I doubt I could do that.

Opinions?

SW is quite unique, in that every crafting tree has it's *own* crafting mods.

So if you take the Chassis Tree, you will learn how to make most Chassis *and* be quite good at it.

Most other professionshave the Assem/Experiment mods in a seperate Tree. I happen to like this feature of SW quite a lot.

At novice , you can RE a lvl 1 item just as well as a master. Once you have the ability, it all comes out the same. You have to go up boxes, in order to get higher RE abilities ( cert 3, 4 , 5 etc.). Each tree has it's own items that can be RE'd.

For instance, if you have 1/0/0/1, You can re lvl 1 boosters/reactors/engines etc, but up to lvl 3 armor, and shields.

The complexity in Reing, comes after lvl 1. Make sure you pick optimal stats for items before you put them in your tool. Ex:

I just did a RE- 2 shield. I had one outstanding shield that had a buttload of hitpoints, and a really great recharge rate. It also had 3k mass and energy drain!!! Well, the other shield I combined it with had only 1700 mass, 2100 energy drain. So I got a lvl 2 shield with 300 hitpoints, 1600 mass, 2k energy drain. It takes all optimal stats, and adds a bonus, based on RE level. ( lvl 2 shield, got 2% bonus).

the answer is no..

with only novice SW you will only be able to reverse engineer lvl 1 parts..

that means u will only get the 1% mod to the part and never get any of the good stuff at the higher lvls that need more than 1 1 1 1

I've never had any interest in dabbling in any of the crafting professions. I'm a sucker for perfection at times. I like having all 10 experimentation points at Master.

But to be sure, Shipwright is definitely one of the easiest crafting professions to dabble in. Even if you just got into making Blueprints, you could do quite well. I've found that the experimentation on Chassis Blueprints does not affect the final product a whole lot. I think they did that on purpose, so you wouldn't have to absorb up all your high quality resources just on the Blueprints. Master blueprints take 150,000 units of resources.

I say, go for it. You'll have a lot of fun with it. And you may even decide that you'd like to drop something else to master Shipwright instead.
