Ive re-rolled my old Navy Pilot character, and decided to go with a washed up old spacer(Im an RPer). I want him to have some kind of ability with ship engineering, but I cant afford to grind shipwright to make componants or chassis, so the only thing left(which fits the ideas I have for my new guy quite well) is RE'ing.

Are you granted the ability to RE at Novice, or do you need a specific skillsbox(please dont say master....)? Also, if it is granted at Novice, is there any success/failure roll which has modifiers through the shipwright tree?

A speedy answer would be appeciated.

You can RE at novice. However, you can only RE RE Level 1 Items.

Various lines give bonuses to differnt parts.

You'd have to be master to RE anything and everything (up to Level 10 stuff in other words)

I don't have access to my character right now, as I am at work. However, the short answer is no you don't need master. I am pretty sure you can go with it at novice, but you can only get a maximum of 1% RE and I am not sure you can RE high level bits. (but again I am not sure how high level)

This is all true.

One additional thing to keep in mind is that REing does not grant exp. So if you wish to progress further you will need to grind out components or chassis for exp.

Ahhh bollocks, theres no way I can afford to grind shipwright at current steel prices, and I only wanted to do RE, I had enough of crafting running my chef business the last time I played the game

Ah well, Ill just plonk down some harvs and master it in a couple of years

Anyone have tips for grinding Shipwright "on the cheap"?

If you're just going to grind and dump, just do novice/tier 1 chassis. They require fewer resource types, but all give the same exp/resource.

SW gives you 1/4 exp per unit of resource used, this is across the board, there is only a fast way, not a cheap way.

To minimize what you are harvesting stick with Tier 1 ships: 2k steel, 1k alumn, 1k ore, and 1k petro chem.

Every other ship type starts adding additional types of resources as well as amounts.

Oh goody, that means..........

EDIT2: Nope, I was right the first time, with 5 BER 13 harvs on a 100% vein, I can craft 18 tier 1 ships per day, for a total of 45,000 xp (5k resources per-ship total, 2500xp per-ship, enough total resources for 18 ships) daily.

I suppose if I stop collecting loot from space I could place down 10 harvs, but my bank and backpack are almost full as it is

EDIT AGAIN: Heh, no I was wrong the first time, going by those numbers I would only get 22500 xp per-day
