Thread: RE XP?

I dunno... I've been thinking about this for a little bit and I'm not sure if it's a good idea or not... should Shipwrights get at least a little XP when they RE items?

Sure, you can come up with some pretty good ship parts when you RE, but considering the loss (the potential sale value of a component going into a RE), I'm wondering if there should be SOMETHING in exchange for this.

One other thing that bothers me is the high resource/low XP ration for things that we craft... all of the other professions have it so you get a decent amount MORE than the resource amounts you are using, but shipwright seems to have gone in the opposite direction. I've only gotten about 1/4 XP for the amount of resources used, and I'm just wondering if anyone else thinks that's a bit low?

I'm asking real questions here, not starting a post to get myself flamed.

Ithink the low turnover on xp is to keep people from mastering the profession in two ships.

Have you tried selling your RE parts? I pretty much stopped crafting parts and only sell RE stuff (although the chassis guy buying parts has really hurt me!) I can RE a level 2 capacitor down to 2500 mass with a recharge rate well into the 30's. They fly off my vendor. Don't dismiss RE parts just because they are low level,I have used an RE level 1 (maybe 2)reactor all the way to 4333 as an imp pilot. It has 11K energy and only weighs 1200, way better than anything I've been able to craft. As far as pricing I do cost of the parts to RE plus the value of one RE part of that level (I buy for 1000/level) it seems to make me a decent proffit.

Oh believe me, I was in no way discounting RE parts as inferior. I've seen a few around and they've had some decent stats, my question is whether anyone thinks we should get a small (maybe 10 XP per level of the RE, possibly more depending on certain factors?) bonus for doing this. Remeber... a level 10 RE destroys 9 out of 10 parts to get ONE good one... when you could have possibly sold all 10 of those for a decent profit.

I'm just curious if people think it's a good idea or not, especially considering the already low XP/ high resource ratio we have to deal with.

Well, yeah you do loose lots of items, but I include that in my cost when I resell them. I guess as you are leveling up it would be nice to get some xp from RE. But, resources are much cheaper than looted parts, especially with the chassis dealer buying them now (I had to double what I was paying for RE parts, and then pass that on to my customers) so I think most of your xp would come from crafting, but i guess 10-20xp here and there from parts you loot in space wouldn't be a bad thing at all

As a side note, in beta you did get RE xp, and it was it's own line instead of being included along with the crafting lines. You also had tools for each type of RE componet, shields, weapons and so on. It was ugly

The XP ratio is a mood point. They could give us 10 times as much XP and just make the XP required for each level 10 times as high.
