I am a 2,2,2,1 SW SLOWLY grinding my way to master. I recently "recieved" 4 Firespray disks through REing the level 1 and 2 parts I qualify for. I noticed that all 4 came from Kuat XXXXXXX parts. So does that mean that only Kuat parts drop them or can you get them from any part? I had someone tell me they would buy all of my Kuat parts EVEN IF THEY HAD BEEN RE'D and I just could not understand why...any thoughts on that?
Any good waypoints to 90%+ concentrations of grind quality steel?

Any component should drop disk fragments. Some people think Kuat parts are more likely to drop fragments, but collected evidence so far seems to argue the opposite, so for now I think the safe assumption is it's as random as slicing.

It is random. I've gotten 6 disks and they've come from reverse engineering all types of parts, not just Kuat parts.

has it been nerfed, I have just re'd 300 bits and got nothing from them (all kuat just for those interested)

No, it hasn't been nerfed, just most times we just get unlucky. I picked up two disks yesterday after about a three week streak of nothin'. Its pobably better odds than you get in Vegas but still is not in our favor.

I have been RE'ing for the last month or so. Earlier this week got my first bulk delivery, about 200 parts, mostly low level. RE'd through 90% of it Wednesday night. Picked back up last night and RE'd 2 or 3 components, and out of a Sienar level 1 reactor pops my first ever fragment!
At least in this case, time spent in a single session did not have any effect. It may "seem" to in many cases simply because of the volume of items processed.

My toon is one of the new races (sullustan). I haven't gotten 1 disk yet but don't do many at all. May have done around 100 so far if that. Just wander if you guys save loot til it builds up hoping that you might get one or you do it as you get the parts?

I am now convinced that your chances of finding the fragments are tied to the amount of time you dedicate to RE'ing parts at any one time. I have a RE loot vendor set up, and have over400 parts up for sale on it. As I only RE when I have stuff worth RE'ing and don't just throw 5 random level 5 engines together I usually only RE for maybe 15-20 minutes at a time. I have yet to get one fragment for the Firespray. I have talked to plenty of people in game and seen a lot of posts on the forums that say they have gotten at least 2 or 3 fragments from that same amount of RE work. The only difference is that most of them say that they buy up a whole mess of components and then sit down and RE for hours at a time. I don't really care if I ever get a schematic or not, but I thought I would just throw that out there in case anyone was interested.

Just made a new toon, he is master artisan/pilot 3222/shipwright 1111, only a week old, but I go up with him and collect looted components. I do this for about an hour, come back and RE them. So far Ive gotten 7 frags from this. As a reminder this is only REing 20-25 at a time each session. Each time but once I got a frag. I dont know if that means anything just trying to help, maybe its not how many but what and when u do it. Just something to think about. LOL, I only made this guy to make my MBH/freelancer a firespray, but Im finding out I enjoy him more, funny the way things workout.

another result... small session, again I picked up about 50 parts and RE'd through about 20 of them, 20 more set aside for future RE'ing once I have a complete set (or for once I get past SW 4222). I logged, came back the next day and RE'd the 10 remaining parts. About the third item of the 10 was a level 1 droid interface. Bam! fragment 4/8.
Both fragments so far were from level 1 components. Hopefully this trend continues, since I'm going to start causing major pain to the tier 1 ties in Corellia space for more low-level parts.

I *know* there's no hard evidence to prove it, but the two fragments I've gotten both came from a component that had 1 Kuat piece in there. As such, my own superstition is that if I have a Kuat piece that will go into the tool to improve the overall piece, it goes in first (consequently the piece comes out named "Kuat - yadda yadda".
I know it all comes down to luck, and I know mine usually sucks.
My latest plan is to collect a couple hundred parts to be RE'd and see if the Kuat thing makes a difference.
