Thread: Shield HP bug Front/Back get equalised when loaded onto ship?!?!?

Hi all,

I've done a search, and found no mention of this bug, so I just wanted to ask if someone else could try to recreate this before I /bug it, in case I'm being completely dense

Scenario:

I craft a deflector shield which has more HP on the rear than on the front. When the shield is loaded onto a ship, the HPs get averaged out so that front and back are equal! It's definitely not just a display bug - if I unload the component and examine it in my inventory, the HP have indeed changed.

Has anyone else encountered this? Seems like a pretty major bug to me, but there's no mention of it in the current bug listing.

Oh, and while I'm here - can someone explain what the two different stats are on the shield HP? They're listed as xxx/yyy for both front and back, and the xxx part seems to behave very oddly. I've had it go up to 10000 on some of my shields before, for instance. In the case of this 'equalising' bug, the yyy numbers are the ones that get equalised. The front xxx remained at the original, low value, while the back xxx was set to the 'equalised' value, same as the yyy's. Hope that made sense

It's not a bug. The Devs fixed it like this to stop the RE shield exploit.

I would say it is very much a bug, the Dev's fix was only a cheap fix. The game should remember the nominal setting ofshields, if something is used to alter those settings (like droid programs), then the shields should return to their origional, normal setting - not be AVERAGED out. What is the point of being able to experiment on the front and back HP values anymore if they end up the same after you use them anyways?

I believe he's talking about crafted shields which cant be RE'd, not looted ones. He's saying the crafted shields are being balanced out even when he crafts them to be stronger in the back.

Yup, that's what I'm saying

I wasn't a SW right back at the start, so I don't know anything about this RE shield exploit, but if that 'fix' is responsible for this issue, then I guess it is a bug, but not one we'll get fixed anytime soon

when you land, your front and back shields are equalized.

there were people who were using shield adjust front and rear on two different shield generators and then re'ing them to end up with horrible overpowered shields.

their "fix" was to make your shield have equal front/back when you landed.

I had the same problem and was actually going to start a topic like this myself. I had built myself 2 sheilds one with experimented front and one with back so i could change them depending on what i was planning on fighting up in space. Anyway i loaded one in and saw the stats instantly even out, quickly pulled it out saying to myself "What the heck" put the other sheild in with the same results so now i have a front sheild and i have a rear sheild but they have identical front back stats now permanently...

Ever since they added the 'fix', all shields, crafted or looted, is like this now. The only thing you can do now is to use the rebel shield adjust droid commands.

Yes. But some of us are using those horrible stat shields, and playing pvp with those shields, but lot of people are using the normal stat shields, because they can't buy jtls in time (lot of time not from their errors, like the European Players), and couldnát be ace in a short time. It's the same, like the "BE A JEDI QUEST" in october 2003. That persons who became a jedi on that time, opened their jedi slotfrom 4+1 (max 10!!!) profession, but before the jedi update patch, thepalyers became jedi from 32 professions, because the SOE find out the4+5 (or more profession) "system". i think, it's a stupiddesingning problem from the SOE developers. We did something, but from this line, the others couldn't do the same, but we won't edit the lucky's ship parts too. (They only nerfed the AT-ST's personally ... But the chickens were better with 18k ham and heavy armor, than the 55k ham's with a medium ...) Why was it a problem for the SOE? Do something clever with the shipwright profession, because it's notnormal, wheni built a VERY VERY VERY VERY VERY VERY VERY VERY HIGH QUALITY ship part (shield, weapon, etc.) from the BEST resources as a master sw, and the looted parts after reveng., sometimes (everytime? ) before reveng.are better than the built ones. I think ...

I don't know the answer for this problem. Maybe the reveng for the crafted items or more exp points for masters could help. I don't know ...

I understand the angst of crafting for a result and having it negated, but the fix solves a lot more problems than it causes. Simply buy copies of the Rebel programs and use them in space (the fix also added value to these programs).

The simple fact that a shield 1500 points better than anything normally out there (not 1500 points, 1500points MORE) could be made under the old system is reason enough to fix that.

If given the choice between selling shields, or only REing L8 shields into 3.8k+ monsters because thats the only thing people want, I think most SW would choose the former.

I agree, it sounds like the bug was a shocker, but it's still a moronic way to fix the problem

So if I have a pre-REed L10 shield with 2602.1 rear, it behooves me to equip it, equalize it, THEN RE?

Sounds like they've merely switched one exploit with another less damning one.

No way, I'd take that shield and RE it with one that has 2300+ front HP. It'll be way more valuable to have that one stat so high than to dilute it down to a HP level where it's fairly easy to find comparable loot.

Though I do agree this fix was not ideal. Was fun to create shields of varying strength depending on what type of combat you were expecting to be getting into.
