I am considering grinding out shipwright. However, with all the shipwrughts currently, how will buisness be like?

Also are there 12 pt. ship wrights?

There really aren't that many really good shipwrights, at least not on my server anyway, and the lack of factory support makes it pretty easy to break into the market. It may be a while before you're doing a lot of business--probably, everyone who spends a lot of time in space already has a favorite shipwright--but it seems like there's still a lot of money to be made in the profession.

Also, there are no skill tapes for shipwrights, which means your investment before you can start really competing won't be as bad.

You can make more as a Pilot than a shipwright with the time involved nowadays. The devs really screwed shipwright over and now it's like architect or Droid Engineer, plain ole disapointing.

It'll cost ya 5million+ units ofresources (15mil credits at 3cpu)to get to Master and you may do 5-10mil a week in sales if you're lucky and have lots of HIGH END resources to craft with. Competition is still fierce.

A Pilot can make 500k an hour easily, without competing with anyone and avoid decay completely by hopping to Deep Space before they land, so there is no cost involved once you Master and have your ship.

I really became a shipwright figuring that I could be a swashbuckling type that could fix his own ship like Han and Chewie, but it's nothing like that. You have to go to a space station to fix anything except for the individual parts on large ships. It's very hard to make ship parts better than the looted ones, although definately not impossible. Reverse Engineering to try and get Kuat fragments is the most fun part of shipwright, and I've grown tired of that too.

I'm not sure that I enjoy it like I thought I would, but if grinding is fun for you, go for it.

I don't think SW is bad at all- but you have to stick to making ship parts and NEVER make chassis. The problem is the resources. You need REALLY REAAAALY GOOD resources (and lots of it) if you want to compete with loot (I go through 200k of high conductivity steel each time I restock). Garbage in, garbage out; don't bother making ship parts unless all your resource stock is good- we're talking 900+ on the relevant resource stats. If the SW specific spawns on your server suck, just do your best.

SW is a great profession for a former armorsmith looking for something new (this was my case). A lot of SW resources are OQ/UT/SR dependant, as an AS you should already have a kick-butt supply of uber aluminum/steel/iron/ore with those stats. The only things you need to worry about after that is a good stock of high COND steel and the specialized SW resources that started spawning after JTL release.

Capacitors and boosters are where loot spanks us raw, all else I can usually beat it or come very close with a major mass perk. For example, I've heard from 3 of my regular customers about a 3.5k damage weapon being the best looted seen thus far. I just crafted some Ace level weapons that dish out 3.7k. Not bad, and it would be a good example of how SW's aren't exactly obsolete in a sea of good loot.

If you want to break into SW now is the time. STOCKPILE SW resources when a good spawn happens. If you decide to go SW at some point and have missed the best spawn of X resource, expect to part with some coin to make up for what you need. So stock up now if you can, if you decide not to go SW you can always sell the resources at a later time.

Also to add, there's not12 point SW's. There noskill tapes for SW at all right now, however the two new races available when JTL came out get a 1 point bonus to certain ship sparts (varies depending on which of the two you pick).
