Alright. Got it pretty much thrown together. Still could use some touchups, but for the most part, the main features are functional. This includes:
DPS Calculation tool: Compares the various damage experimentation lines (Min/Max/vsShield/vsArmor/Refire) and shows you how much of an increase you'll get by experimenting each to 100%. This is mainly to show how powerful refire is, not much else to it.
"Can I Make It" Calculator: This tool will allow you to enter the target stats for your final product and show you the amount of experimentation it would take to get there, thus telling you if it is even possible without going over 100%. It can be used for finer things, like figuring out if you need to hit 92 or 98% to get it under the 0.xx5 refire mark for rounding down.
"What Can I Do" Calculator: This tool will allow you to play around with your experimentation points to see how they effect DPS on the final weapon. You can, for example, see the DPS variance between 9 in Max damage and 6 in Refire vs 6 in Max Damage and 9 in Refire.
***NEW*** Quick DPS: As per some requests earlier, I added a tool that will just calculate your gun's DPS. It does not have any of the experimentation functionality, merely tells you the DPS of your gun.
***NEW*** Weapon Builder: This tool will allow you to enter materials' stats and will show you what the final product, as well as it's maxes, will be. ***NOTE*** This tool is, as of yet, untested against true in-game stats. Feedback is seriously needed on it.
***Removed*** Material Adjuster: Since it was just something I was testing out (had to relearn a bit about Excel when I made this...it's a little different in coding from StarOffice), I took it out.
Note: None of the final numbers given are 100% accurate. After all my testing, I still cannot figure out how to account for the miniscule decimals and other variants SOE has thrown into the formulas. Rest assured, I did my testing with it, though. From what I have tested, it is accurate to within about 98% of what the final product will be. This can be attributed to rounding errors and shortcuts that SOE doesn't show/tell us about.
This tool is not meant to show you exactly what your final weapon will be. Merely, it will give you a very close approximate. Remember, this tool isn't running in the actual game, just off the numbers you give it.
**Update (27/08/05): New update fixing the issues noted in this post.
Without further ado, here it is:
Nearro's DPS Calculator **Updated: 27/08/05**
**Note: The file is saved in Excel, 95-2003 format, so it should work on all versions. If you find errors while running it, please do not hesitate to inform me. I will do my best to fix these errors as quick as possible.
**Note2: Any and all feedback on this tool is greatly appreciated.

Got a few requests after my posting about how to calculate your DPS on weapons to make up a spreadsheet for it. So, lo and behold, I started one.
It's just a work in progress so far. One set of calculations, the one that figures out % increase based on points experimented, is just off memory for the moment. I need to set down and work on that one a bit more to get it accurate, but it's best guess and fairly accurate.
**Update on the above: I hopped in game and did a few tests. The %increase is now correctly set for "Great" successes. And, apparently, there's a bit more to the numbers SOE shows us.
What I'd like is some feedback from other shipwrights out there. Is something like this a tool you'd find useful? Would it be nice to point your potential customers to it so they can see for themselves you aren't blowing smoke about how to maximize DPS? Any comments/critiques are more then welcome.
And, without further blabbering:
Here it is (Link removed, outdated version)
**Note, because it is an embeded Excel file, it only works in IE 5.01+ I know...I know...I use Firefox too. Wish it worked in there.Message Edited by Nearro on 08-28-2005 08:50 PM

It is working for me, I will take a look at it tonight when I go online. I packed it up to my Pocket PC (a merchants best friend) and will do some testing.

Oops. Forgot to change the other font color. That should fix getting just a black screen.
Remember, it requires IE 5.01+ and the MS Office Web Components to work.
It's just a test version right now, so the final will be done up in Excel as well, so you don't have to view it online.

Did a couple more tests to verify the 3rd calculator, the "What Can I Do" Calculator, is giving accurate results.
Starting weapon, pre experimentation:
Min Damage: 1914.6
Max Damage: 3101.1
vsShield: 0.725
vsArmor: 0.241
Refire: 0.295
Test 1:
Game's result: (9 points into refire, 6 into max damage)
Max Damage: 3303.1
Refire: 0.263
Calculator's result:
Max Damage: 3303.1
Refire: 0.264
Test 2:
Game's result: (9 into refire, 6 into min)
Min Damage: 2045.6
Refire: 0.263
Calculator's result:
Min Damage: 2039.3
Refire: 0.264
Looks like there's a rounding issue somewhere in there on refire. I'll look around and see if I can't get it a bit more accurate. Though, the variance on the 2nd test was 2 Amazings on Min Damage, instead of all Greats. Changing the input on the calculator to take that into account and it comes back with 2045.3 min damage. So, in all, it seems to be quite accurate.

Add in another request for feedback (this one would take a lot longer to implement):
Would it be worthwhile to allow people to enter the materials used to craft them so they can see what the base stats would be with various mats?
This is a thought that I had when I first started doing this spreadsheet, but after a few looks, realized that it is by far a secondary objective. The calculations required, not to mention all the extra data I'd need to compile, would be quite time-intensive, but something I wouldn't mind doing, if it was something the Shipwright community would like.

Doesn't seem to do much. All I see is a big black screen.
OK, tried it again and I receive an error message stating that I need Microsoft Internet Explorer 5.01 and Office Components 2003 or better.
Problem is I do not have Office 2003 on this system ![]()

The materials calculator would be nice but I probably wouldnt use it since I can already compare materials in the crafting window by clicking on each one and comparing their numbers for whatever stat I am going for.

Yeah shoulda used Office 2000 to build this thing. You weeded out a lot of potential users by using 2003 unless you can figure out how to make it back-compatible.

Well, the final spreadsheet will be saved as an Office 2k file, but this is just for testing.
Though, using Office 2003 is better then the number I would have weeded out by posting it in StarOffice form, which is what I actually made it in.
I'll work on a couple screenshots for those that can't access it.
And @Dadoum, Yeah, I do the same to figure out what the final product will be. The main idea behind it was to see just how good of materials you would need to make a certain item. ie, do you really need that 10cpu 990OQ, or can you get the same thing made with a 7cpu 950OQ.
**Small edit: That actually got me thinking (the compatibility, not the materials). I will probably end up making 2 versions. One saved in Excel 2k and another done as a web page. Will just be a matter of simple rewrites.

Most of it is, apart from cleaning it up a little.
I am still in the process of working on the Materials -> Crafted part conversion. That beast is something else to have to deal with, so I might just cut it out for now and make it something seperate.
Last real things I'm doing before pushing this out there is finishing off my Materials Adjuster (takes the regular stats off materials and converts them over to a 1-1000 number based on the caps. Gives you a good idea on if it's a good type of that material), and cleaning up the interface a lot.
I'd say ETA is this weekend for a final product, sooner if RL permits.
