Hello valued shipwrights!
I recently started grinding pilot on a new server and searching for low level components can be a pain. So one thing to help out a newbie pilot like myself would be rearranging the way you group your vendors.
Currently I see alot of " Engines, reactors, weaposn etc.
What I'd like to see is: Vendor for Level 1-3 Components and Chassis, Vendor for Level 4-6, Vendor 7-9...
Since pilots are limited in the type of chassis and components based on pilot level it would make searching for the vendors that have my desired parts easier.
I'm just throwing out ideas to try and help the profession. Good luck all!

A method I use on my vendors is ending the price with the component level (ie lvl 5 sells for 5005, 10005, etc). If the part has been RE-d, then I end it with 500, so a lvl 5 REd part would be 10500 or 25500, etc). This saves the hassle of having multiple vendors, but it's still easy and clear to find parts by level.

Dunno about most of you, but I rename each and every part I make...
For instance, a lvl1 reactor would be something like this: '{OK} - lvl1 Reactor - 12300gen - 1200mass'
and so on and so forth. anyone searching on starsider should see a bunch of parts all starting with {OK} -...etc....
(except for mining equipment, for people to find it, i start with 'Mining Laser XXX {OK Shipwright} <damage here>' etc...)
the renaming can sometimes be a pain, but I make sure when i restock, I make at least four of each, and just type name once, then copy/paste for the others (hopefully getting same experimentation results, which *usually* happens, if not, just a change of a couple numbers really)

NOTE: OK, the annoying 'can't post while using firefox' is really really bothering me, i hate opening IE just to post. anyone know the workaround?

First, I don't see how this is going to help out with Galaxy Vendor Search. Second, this is simply too much work. Third, it just doesn't work for us. I have created vendors in a manner to distribute my inventory evenly. I have a vendor for ship components, another for repair/paint/texture kits, and another for missiles/ECMs.
I have a better idea. Why don't the devs fix vendors? For longer than I can remember, the general merchant community has provided the devs with some pretty good feedback regarding vendors and the vendor interface. How much of that have we seen implemented? Whatever the answer, it isn't enough. The devs have spent a lot of time removing time sinks for the combat classes--merchants need some love. PERIOD.

ah, much thanks. i had that disabled a while ago, but must have lost the setting (didn't realize the editor had come back, with my all-to-super powers of observation /sarcasmoff)

What I've done is to set up vendors by tier. Novice, Tier 1, Tier 2, Tier 3, Tier 4, and Ace. Makes it easy to sort everything by level.

I used to name my components by my own line that followed the Mark example. UltraFIRE 2000 = Mark II , I've since added the LVL so now it would read
UltraFIRE 2000 LVL3 Ion Cannon
This makes it very easy for pilots to pick out what they are looking for from the global search.
