Thread: Improvement to ship components... good or bad?
Every looted capacitor would be better than the one I could make using the best resources.
With engines, the reason speed was usualy pretty good on crafted engines is that unless every single point of experimentation was put into YPR, it was not worth putting any in.
Either all points were used in YPR to make the engine manouvreably, but slow and heavy, or into mass and speed to make a light, fast engine which steers like a cow.
With these changes, we should be able to craft capacitors and engines which are better than 70 - 80 % of looted components.
The best components will always be reverse engineered however - and that will never change (nor should it)

i specified that capacitators and YPR of engine need reballance, i agree with you that capacitators are not worth crafting and it should be fixed, i'm not sayng that all is right as it is now and SW should have useless component to craft...
i'm just sayng that it seemed to me that if the "balance" of SW will make all the stats of component on par with the best looted (is what i understood from Plat posts) then pilots will have nothing more to loot...
eg.
if i max stats for looted engines are
speed 1000, Y 100, P 100, R 100
and i will make craftable engines that can reach same stats with best resources why i should loot? even RE will be useless because the main purpose of RE is to mix stats to "fix" weak points of various components...
eg
i'm lucky and i loot a rare engine with 1000 speed but YPR 30
after 2 weeks i loot a rare engine with 300 speed and YPR 100
consider that these are rare loots as they have max in some stats...
after RE i will have a 1060 speed YPR 106, as you see is quite pointless to spend months looking for uberestloot if all i can obtain is an engine on par with a crafted one.
is this that i fear, and i think is a problem, not that many looted capacitators have 35 recharge rate and crafted ones 10
with the changed of the engine i think we will go in a path that will lade to the first (my fear) situation...
crafted engines are alredy (totally) superior in max speed they just difect in YPR,,, from the posts is stated that crafted engines will get an additional boost to speed and on a second time they will be made on par to looted for YPR...
in this scenario even the most ubere RE engine with components collected in over an year will not be able to match the new crafted engines....
if engines had to be rebalanced (a thing that i agree with) i think it had to be done
- improving YPR of crafted ones
and
a) nerfing a bit their speed to meet the max speed of looted one
or
b) improving a bit the speed of rare looted ones to make it superior to crafted ones
this for engines but it can apply even to weapons...
looted guns for example have the best damage hands down... crafted ones have faster and with less mass, if crafted weapons damage will be made on par with looted ones then crafted will become superior to any "uber" RE gun as it will have similar damage but will fire faster and weight less.
i can also be all wrong and the rebalance of SW components will take in accounts all of these factor, but i think these are legit concers that have all the right to be expressed.

Please look at Darth_Platypus' posts here in the SW forum, in particular the "Shipwright Channel 24hr News Update!" thread. He balanced our capacitors and engines against the base stats for each tier. High end crafted will surpass the majority of loot, but the rare loot will still blow away our crafted components: its just now we have a reason to make those components, either for those who don't have the time or desire to search out the perfect components or for those who want a ship with components that they are willing to sacrifice to the gods of decay.
