I read the patch notes and the posts of Platypus


i must admit that i'm not to positive about the changes... i'm a pilot and not a SW but here my reasons.


With the changes proposed it seem that all the SW components will become superior or equal to the best possible loot... this is quite bad in my opnion...


Atm i don't think there is much high end content and one of te few reason that can keep a MPilot flying his ship is to try to improve it with some uber loot.

Whitout it why a MPilot should keep flying? Ok someone can keep flying for fun but there are not incentives to do that, also there is a point where there is not anymore much challenge and opponents becomes just a routine.


Think if all the loot of the ground will be removed, why people with finished template should keep to fight PvE? if big hunts give not any rewards why invest time in them?


I don't want to say that loot should be always superior to crafted, good crafted components should be generally better to loot one, but i think there should be a chance to find some rare component superior to crafted.


for sure i'm not referring to capacitators, some components compared to rewards (as reward shield), or in a lesser way weapons, they need a rebalance...


but for example looted engines are alredy way inferior to crafted ones for speed but they are better for YPR, even there i agree that YPR had to be changed, but if they will get another speed boost and then YPR will be made as good as looted, is quite clear that looted will become just useless.


even now there is not much too loot, and to have the inv always full of crap after hours of flying is not too funny, if it will be that for every component i really think that the pilot population will be going to diminuish again.


Also there could be some side effects for such boosts, if SW will made easilly the uberish equipement players will reach the high end (or better the end end ) content way faster than before as in the moment they become master, they will have alredy the most powerfull ship possible and the game will turn out to be too easy.


Again i think that some balance for crafted is necessary, as said i also think that, for how is structurated JTL, will be very bad if there will be no more chance to find a rare loot to RE with stats realy superior to crafted one.

Zilod - the point you seem to be missing is that in the case of capacitors, it was simply not worth the effort of making one.... ever !!
Every looted capacitor would be better than the one I could make using the best resources.

With engines, the reason speed was usualy pretty good on crafted engines is that unless every single point of experimentation was put into YPR, it was not worth putting any in.
Either all points were used in YPR to make the engine manouvreably, but slow and heavy, or into mass and speed to make a light, fast engine which steers like a cow.

With these changes, we should be able to craft capacitors and engines which are better than 70 - 80 % of looted components.

The best components will always be reverse engineered however - and that will never change (nor should it)

i specified that capacitators and YPR of engine need reballance, i agree with you that capacitators are not worth crafting and it should be fixed, i'm not sayng that all is right as it is now and SW should have useless component to craft...


i'm just sayng that it seemed to me that if the "balance" of SW will make all the stats of component on par with the best looted (is what i understood from Plat posts) then pilots will have nothing more to loot...


eg.


if i max stats for looted engines are


speed 1000, Y 100, P 100, R 100


and i will make craftable engines that can reach same stats with best resources why i should loot? even RE will be useless because the main purpose of RE is to mix stats to "fix" weak points of various components...


eg


i'm lucky and i loot a rare engine with 1000 speed but YPR 30


after 2 weeks i loot a rare engine with 300 speed and YPR 100


consider that these are rare loots as they have max in some stats...


after RE i will have a 1060 speed YPR 106, as you see is quite pointless to spend months looking for uberestloot if all i can obtain is an engine on par with a crafted one.


is this that i fear, and i think is a problem, not that many looted capacitators have 35 recharge rate and crafted ones 10


with the changed of the engine i think we will go in a path that will lade to the first (my fear) situation...


crafted engines are alredy (totally) superior in max speed they just difect in YPR,,, from the posts is stated that crafted engines will get an additional boost to speed and on a second time they will be made on par to looted for YPR...


in this scenario even the most ubere RE engine with components collected in over an year will not be able to match the new crafted engines....


if engines had to be rebalanced (a thing that i agree with) i think it had to be done


- improving YPR of crafted ones


and


a) nerfing a bit their speed to meet the max speed of looted one


or


b) improving a bit the speed of rare looted ones to make it superior to crafted ones



this for engines but it can apply even to weapons...


looted guns for example have the best damage hands down... crafted ones have faster and with less mass, if crafted weapons damage will be made on par with looted ones then crafted will become superior to any "uber" RE gun as it will have similar damage but will fire faster and weight less.



i can also be all wrong and the rebalance of SW components will take in accounts all of these factor, but i think these are legit concers that have all the right to be expressed.

Please look at Darth_Platypus' posts here in the SW forum, in particular the "Shipwright Channel 24hr News Update!" thread. He balanced our capacitors and engines against the base stats for each tier. High end crafted will surpass the majority of loot, but the rare loot will still blow away our crafted components: its just now we have a reason to make those components, either for those who don't have the time or desire to search out the perfect components or for those who want a ship with components that they are willing to sacrifice to the gods of decay.

Well, I'm guessing the change will be that crafted components will be better than everage loot, but reverse engineered stuff will still be the best. At least I'm hoping this is the way it goes.

I think they're pushing crafted components above the average of the loot parts. Not above all of them.
