It cost me a lot (but then there were the only availables in any vendors of the galaxy) to buy a class II mining laser (175k !!!) and a medium starfighter Cargo Hold (100k !!!).

I thought I was well equipped to go mining and did a try on an asteroid in the Tattoine system. I kept shooting at it for a long time and nothing !!! I even had the examine window opened and the asteroid was not dropping in condition... I even came so close I bumped on it, but nothing...

I gave up...

What is it am I doing wrong ?

I'm shipwright and I really would like to get my hands on those asteroid resources.

You can only mine asteroid resources if you have ROTW enabled. Do you?

No I don't have it... Are you sure ? I mean : I could buy the mining laser from the vendor, equip it on my ship and shoot with it... Asteroids are "flying" in every space sectors... I'm shipwright, the asteroids appear in a lot of my schematics :

And I couldn't mine them because I don't have RotW ???

Yes you DO need RotW to do space mining, No the devs haven't coded in any in-game warnings.

Your best bet is to ask the shipwright nicely for your money back and give him back the cargo hold and mining laser.

Well... The problem is not how much I spent in swg creds... The problem lies in the fact my lil cl5 artisan-only Rodian wanted to go have fun in space, mining... Flying around the asteroids, etc...

During JtL Alpha 100 I was amongst those asking for space-mining, and was sometimes laughed at by people saying "bah : never gonna happen". How true they were, yet not for the right reason...

When I heard about space mining, I thought "cool ! They finally did it !" And now there is a rule coded in the game preventing me to do so because I didn't pay SOE for it...



I mean I understand that by not buying the extension from a planet I don't get to visit it. But then ??? Mining is a general mechanic of my main profession : Shipwright ! Not something specific to Kashyyyk ?

That I don't get a Kashyyykian Bantha ok ! But space mining ??? Asteroids are all over the place, not just on Kashyyyk. Omg !!! Please tell me they made a mistake, that it's a bug !

You cannot mine asteroids if you don't have ROTW. Working as intended.

There are some asteroid resources you can only get in Kashyyyk. The mining quest for the Y-8 is part of ROTW.
