still trying to figure out what to do with my FS alt...i know he will be a crafter but which i dont know, ive got it down to chef, shipwright, or bio engineer and im trying to find out which makes some decent money...

im figuring that since shipwright is still sort of new that the resources needed arent long extinct (like armor and weaponsmith...dont wanna pay the originals for their stuff)

any thoughts?

I'd like to know what all of you consider to be your best money making items. I am a new Master SW and so far for me I have made the most on components charging about 20 cpu. I haven't sold much in the way of missiles or chaff packs. Paint kits have sold pretty well at 10 cpu.

I setup shop as a SW but to avoid burnout..i wont advertise at all

It means I wont get 50 mil credits a week but I have enough walk in traffic from simply being on the Planetary Map to make at least a Million a week. My grinding costs will be totally recouped by the end of the month given the small but steady flow of sales I have.

I dont need to get rich fast..as long as I still get rich in the end :-) I also dont need to be a big operator and since im not big, I dont have the overhead, and I can afford to keep my prices lower

I just concentrate on what I get the most requests for and what seems to move the most, and keep a small but varied selection of other parts

I think the money I get is very decent but then I dont expect nor desire to try and raise 50 million credits in a single weekend. I plan on being there..big operators come and go all the time, but the small operators can outlast them all. (most importantly, again I dont advertise, so I avoid price wars with big SW's, and my location is prime, and I am the only SW with a shop on my home planet, (I cater to the locals not to the galaxy)

I have an unadvertised shop on Dantooine with no other secondary setups and I bring in 700k-1mill daily when I have a full stock. I think the 25 mill in a weekend is way too high to believe. Don't count on making that much that fast.

Well it certainly started out slow for me. Location is everything! I started out as Master Tailor and had a couple vendors originally in an out of the way spot that did not get much traffic. After making MSW I moved operations to just 514m outside MO on Dantooine and that has made a world of difference. Try to stay close to a busy starport or high traffic planetary City if you can. As far as SW goes I used up so many resources grinding master that I had little left to start crafting components. Since I was enjoying space flight so much I started collecting loot and thats what got me going down the RE path. I would not turn back now. I have a total of 11 vendors and my RE vendor is by far the biggest credit producer. If you don't want to be totally tied to your crafting station and have other things like quests and space missions you like to do I find RE to be a good fit with that. Sort of the best of both worlds IMHO. I'm certainly not making the kinds of credits that some are posting but I can afford to pay my bills, buy some new trinkets from time to time and still keep my combat char outfitted with nice weapons and armor so that is good enough for me!

Yeah, it's decent money, but it's a pretty indecent amount of work. Shipwright is a perfect example of getting back what you put into it.

If you do an obscene amount of crafting, you'll see an obscene amount of credits rolling in.You'll also drive yourself crazier than a $#!%house rat.

If you're a small operation and can avoid the attention of the empire (it would be unfortunate if they had to leave a garrison in your merchant tent) you'll cling to sanity, but you'll see much lower sales.

Shipwright can be a really overwhelming profession. The sheer amount of parts and resources involved are staggering. I'd only recommend it if you really enjoy crafting.

Yea it's good money. It's good money because the burnout rate is extremely high so there's just not enough crafters making ship parts. Use great resources. Grab the attention of the pilots on your server. Make a billion credits. Retire when your carpotunnel syndrome can't keep up with demand any more. =)

If all you are looking for is a profession to support your alt, then SW is not for you. Go WS or AS.

To give an example:

If I switched my focus and spent all the time I normally spend SWingmaking armor, Id probably be making 5-10x the amount of credits I do now. No exaggeration.

SW is too time consuming to be a good alt support prof.

Also, since I dont want to play the 'restock all the time' game, I picked a good but not heavily traffiked area.

I focus on Armor, Sheild, stocking ALL the types of ordanance and launchers, paint & all the texture kits (these are GREAT sellers), and all purpose repair kits. Since Armor & Sheild are my main focus I keep those in large quantities and focus on providing the highest defense vs mass ratio I can muster.

My Crafter template for my alt is

Master SW

Master DE

Master Artisan

and the rest of the SP go into Merchant

I keep seperate vendors for Starship droids, flight computers, interfaces, and programs.

Given there are so many parts of a starship, you can successfully focus on certain parts. In my case its Defensive systems and ordenance.(and spaceframes)

I do not deal in RE'ed parts however, and wont buy them or resell them. My guild donates parts to me en masse so I have no need to buy, and any uber parts get set aside for internal use. Firespraydisks also stay in the guild. (besides keeping track of Re'ed parts, and renaming them for sale is a giant PITA). ID rather let someone else focus on that,

PS if there are any SW's on Chilastra who would like to subcontract out sheild, armor & ordanance manufacturing, let me know. I have the capacity. (PM me if interested)

Probably not immediately no... but on a small server like Wanderhome I could probably pull 25 mil in a very good weekend if I could keep up with the stock. Of course to make that much I'd have to spend probably half that in resources, but it's not that unreasonable an amount that I couldn't see it happening.

Yes.

However, everything is handcrafted. You'll soon find that you don't want to spend all your Star Wars Time crafting, I mean it is a game after all.

Now I have a screening process to select who I will craft stuff for:

My priorities are:

1. Friends

2. People who bring in asteroid in exchange for parts

3. Money. I charge 10K per level for upgraded parts, express orders are 2x. Standard parts are 5K per level.

4. Fun. I don't like to spend more than 1 hour crafting, and basically that's one hour will get you is one custom order. So this is more of a challenge aspect.

If you want to make money, hells yea you can make money hand over fist. I personally don't, as I don't want the attention, nor the headaches of running a big time business.

I make anywhere from 250K to 1 Mil per week, and that's enough to support my combat character's armor, spice, and med habits. If I want to kick it up a notch, sure thing, but it's probably more fun to go loot hunting than crafting for money. And when I do craft, I only craft for established clients.

Beautiful thing is that I grinded Shipwright the hard way, and still have a Respec Token left, so guess what? I don't have the Master Shipwright Badge! This my friends is great. I wear noobwear and carry a "Novice Brawler" tag. No one bugs me, and if they don't know I'm a shipwright, they never will!

So no more stupid shipwright questions, and no dumb customers wasting your time.

If you are referred to me by an established customer then you are in the circle, and I'll make a part for you. Word of mouth travels quick, and it's been plenty enough to fill orders. I fill orders within 48 hours.

My pricing on everything, ships, faction gear, resources, spice, anything, is simple. You pay more than I did for it, and from there it increases based on how much I don't want to restock my vendor. I don't have any expensive habbits to support so I don't *need* any income. I love crafting but I want it to be for fun, not a job. This is why I price the way I do. Eg, I had saber resources on a vendor for 200 cpu. I thought they wouldn't move very fast but I sold out I jacked the price to 500 cpu (faaaar too expensive imo) and now it trickles out but I'm not swamped trying to find more resources and running around like a chicken with my head cut off.

I haven't made a dime off of any of my shipwright stuff yet. I keep helping guildies out on pilot missions and giving crap away
