That is not correct. A droid counts as a "NULL" rating not a 0. Testing is fairly inconclusive but some testing indicates a droid is approx equivilant to a +25 station. However with a +15.00 tool this may not be true (may be higher)

Hrm, I never heard it explained that way...but, forgive me if I'm misunderstanding, wouldn't a Null rating mean that it has no rating? i.e. 0? But yet you claim some people feel it's equal to a +25 station? How does that work? ah well, I've never used one personally so my information is based off of what I've read here in these forums, so if it's right or wrong I'm just repeating what I've read! hehe

No, a Null rating isn't taken into account in the math, it's treated as not existing. It's like something that needs PE when most of it is metal. The PE value doesn't exist , so it's treated as null, not affecting the outcome, relying instead on the one material that does have a PE value for the numbers. Considering a Null value 0 would give a much differnt effect.
That's the idea.
The commonest example of making use on a "null" value is in making harvesters. You will find most architects use Lubricating Oil in place of any chemical needed for construction as they do not have a UT, a SR or a HR stat. As such they are essentially ignored and the system only looks at the metal and ore used in the construction. Using a polymer that does have the stats will typically drag down the average and so cause a worse construction.
As to why it is equivilant to a +25 station that is empirical evidence (see the DE forum, test was done there) comparing a variety of stations and seeing which ones gave better crafting results.
Personally I prefer the use of my droid, but then I often craft at a starport with a client so we can check it fits in rather than run back to the player city I am based in to craft.
As SW's we have had trouble with "nulls" as the system gets confused if all the numbers it is looking for are "null" and will only then treat it as a 0 (asteroid resouce components before publish 24).
While the exact forumla is unknown there are two key numbers in crafting, the tool and the station. Given we can now have 100% tools the station can only drag down the average if the formula is simple multiple.

What's a reasonable price for a Private ship crafting station? And does it take up a building lot?
