Well, I am in my third week of SWG and am now at a cross-road of selecting the next elite profession. Ultimately I plan to be a shipwright. But I was wondering if I should dabble in the architect line first and then dumping those points to SW after I have created enough harvestors and gathered ample amount of resources.

What do you think? Is this a silly idea and I should avoid it? Should I just jump right into the SW business and buy resources instead for the grind? The prices on FarStar is ~2 cpu so it will indeed be a long grind as it is.

TIA

I would stockpile resources first. You need around 6 million to master plus, after you Master, SW uses alot of resources. 150k for one Master Ship alone. Once you have all the resources you need, it only takes an hour or less to go from Novice to Master. There is a post on how to do it in 30 minutes and the FAQ that is stickied at the top will explain all you need to know.

Architect like shipwright is not very forgiving of dabblers - you'd have to grind a whole tree to be able to make the heavy harvestors, and even then you'd only be able to make them at about a 10 extraction rate. As someone who made the switch from architect to shipwright when JtL came out, don't spend the time on arch. I'd recommend paying for some master arch's 13 extraction rate harvestors by selling space loot - you can find BER 13 harvies for about 200k each, less if you have an architect who will sell at cost. it takes about 50k resources to make one, if I remember right.

edit: This is coming from someone who hasn't touched a structure crafting station in almost a year - check the prices yourself and do whatever you will have fun with. Architect was fun until my custom order requests became 20 heavy harvestors, and why don't you have them done already, it's been 5 minutes!

You'd be better off just buying the harvs, it will save you a ton of time and money on grinding resources.
