Just a quick question, i am thinking of going SW. And i understand that to get novice i need to be Artisan 4/0/0/0 at the least. My question is simply : Should i just do Arti 4/0/0/4 (Naturally i will need to be able to survey and find resources
)or are there added benefits to having any other artisan trees (Or indeed having master Artisan)as a SW?
Thank you for your time and any help you may be able to give me

The merchant line is nice so you can set yourself up a vendor. Other than that and Engineering IV, no part of artisan is that useful for a SW.. though if you master it you will be able to make all-purpose repair kits, heheh.
I laugh because they're not very necessary.

Unless you're doing a custom order, hand delivered order only business you're likely to want to get at least 4034 to have one vendor, likely 4044 so you can get a decent item limit (biz 3 is 100 biz 4 is 250). Master artisan gets you the generic ship repair kit, which is craftable in the ship tool, however uses shipwright experimentation, not AS. However you can get master artisan for a day, whip up a bunch of generic repair kit schematics, store them and the resources to make them in a droid, and then drop master artisan and pull out the schematics as you need them and do a factory run to replace stock. If you ever need more kits, grind out MA again and make more. I'd recommend going up into the merchant tree some, you can use the points for going master artisan to swap between that and 4000 merchant, which would put your vendor on the map and let you use a barker droid to advertise your shop for you.

I've got 4042 in Artisan. You can actually get away with Survey II. It takes a bit of practice to do so, but you'll save 9 SP in the end. You just have to learn how the veins of resources tend to pan out and practice overshooting you survey wp by enough to cover your restricted scanner range but still be able to track the resource concentrations.

Personally, I mastered Artisan for a few reasons:
- Surveying - forget about finding resources without it. And at today's resource prices, you're not going to survive if you aren't harvesting a bulk of the resources you need.
- Business - have to be able to sell your wares somehow. Personally, I don't think that the Business branch of Artisan is enough, but this branch is necessary to continue on to Merchant.
- One-Stop-Shop - I thought it would be great if I could open a "one-stop-shop" for pilots. Thus, I mastered Droid Engineer, as well as Shipwright. Unfortunately, there are many subcompnents that a Droid Engineer needs that only a Master Artisan can craft.

I have ended up going full master merchant, and 4 x 4 4 on Artisan. It's really an individual choice though, more vendors always help, especially when it comes to storing those looted parts you will amass for KSE grinding.
