It will be very hard to compete if your not master. I can't say for sure how we'll you would do, but most people perfer buying from a master (which is mostly because of the misconception that if your not a master, you can't make "uber" products).

As unfair as it is, you cant compete, you might well be able to max out a ships mass at 4 4 4 4 but you wont be able to touch the HP. It is not really a misconception that non masters are not as good as MSW, cos quite simply they aint.
Chassis are also the hardest thing to make a business out of, I dont bother making them unless people ask. That leads you to components, and you will have less exp points as a non-master, so you wont be able to make as good an item as a MSW, and some items (DE, Caps, Armor) will turn out just plain crap
My advice is dont waste your time

I already have it in my mind that I will not be able to get much (if any) profit from SW since as I said, I am a MBH and would not have any extra skill points to get the skill to set up a vendor unless I drop Novice Medic which means I could not go to combat alone which would not work for me. I am looking into SW so I can make some of my own stuff like chassis and weapons. I am not a Master Pilot yet, but when I get there it would be nice not to cash out for ship parts so often when I could make my own. Given, not as good, but should do the job nicely. I mean, I am still using the same weapons I used to get to MBH, but I my Tier 2 kimo is almost gone just trying to complete Tier 3 in flying.

I realize your trying to save money by making it yourself, but remember, it's gonna take about 2-2.5 million resources just to get to 4/0/0/4. So if all you plan to do is make chasis/weapons for youself, this might end up costing you money rather than saving you money.

Good point
I would say that if you look about you will always be able to find a SW or MSW that is willing to craft a chassis for no money if you provide the resources....so save the SP

You will be able to build not so bad weapons and shields at 4004, but as already mentioned, you need many resources to get to that point and if you don't do it on practice you will end up having enough chassis lying around for the next ten years or so...
You might be able to make a profit out of making missiles. I don't mass produce em, as they cost too much resources to me and i like to spend my good resources on stuff that lasts a little longer. I think it would be theoretical possible to grind SW just with missle packs, as they give same ammount of xp as chassis per resource but it would be a very hard grind

i would not advise it.
u will be unhappy with the quality of weapons u end up with. master gives a few more exp points, and its significant.
as you get higher in Pilot, u will begin to be way more picky regarding what weapon you use. Without master, u wont be able to exp down that extra crucial hundred points of drain, or lower the e/s just enough to avoid eating your cap too fast. or maybe lower themass just enoguh to fit it in you chassis. and still have engouh left over to exp on the min/max damage. or any other component u might need.
it will just frustrate you.
i bit the bullet and finally made an alt acount. i ll admit i love SW. i love RE'ing, i love trying 5 times for that perfect reactor. (best for T3-T4 i made so far is a 14393 power with the pretty good resourses i have, its a mark III so LOW mass - dont remmeber exactly) but u need master. no two ways about it...
