If you're willing to dedicate yourself to it, it's profitable. I really don't think it's a dabble-friendly profession (as in being less than master shipwright trying to make money - though you could probably produce missles and counter measures fairly well...dunno).

As for the grind, it really doesn't take all that long. Provided you have the resources... it will take you longer to *become* novice shipwright than go from novice to master. (Probably would take all of 15 minutes from novice to master if you have the resources...and click slow )Keep in mind, the resource cost here is *HUGE* -- so I suggest playing the game, doing other things (combat, etc), while you place harvesters for the resources you need. Will probably take a couple weeks, or longer, if you have no money to start (to buy the harvesters and/or power).

So..... Yeah. I really enjoy it, I make plenty of credits to support my massively annoying compulsion of buying high quality resources in very large amounts (expensive habit heh). As for profit, it's totally random - I can make 3-4 million (gross, not net) in a night (if it happens, it's on the weekend--doesn't happen often), or as little as 50k. Though, I'm getting to the point where large selling nights are starting bother me because then I have to spend some hours to restock it all heh. *sigh* all in a day for a business....
