Shipwrights could make the best components. I don't mind spending money getting new components every now and then. However in the current system the best stuff is loot and not only that but it is very hard to get and can take months of farming to get it. Once you do manage to loot that amazing component you can only use it so many times before it decays and becomes useless.
What is the point in having a system like this?
I think either you make the best stuff very, very hard to get and remove decay, so that one you do have it you don't have to worry about losing it. (However that would make you guys useless).
Or
You make it so the best stuff is made by Shipwrights and it decays but you don't have to worry because once it does decay, we pilots can come back to you and buy new stuff. (This gives you lots of customers. Also I would prefer this system.) Not only that but it would mean that all pilots are just about equal when it comes to equipment. This would mean a PvP system which is a lot fairer as it would reply on who has the best skill rather than who managed to get lucky and loot an uber component.

Most of the stuff shippies can make can match or better 90% of most of the Reverse Engineered loot components. The only thing I think we're lacking on is probably the guns (to many places to experiment for guns). Besides Deep Space is still decay free.

Let's see here....Engines, not better:
Speed = very fast
Mass = a little too heavy
Power consumption = like gassing a up a suburban compared to a geo metro
PYR = too little, too late
Weapons: I can uberize 1 1/2 stats. all the restof the statsare pure guzzlers.
Reactors = I wanna match the Kuat RCZ or whatever it is with the 30K+ power. Some loadouts are far too underpowered.
Capacitors = finally have good performance, but still too heavy.

Make a MK III or a MK IV engine with a limiter and then go crazy on YPR. Yes it's not as good as the uber engine but it comes pretty darn close.
And for the love of doG you don't fit MK IV or MK V components in a 90K chassis.
Mass become a problem with MK IV or V stuff but the others are pretty easy on mass.

Don't criticize my loadouts if you haven't even seen them. The point is that we could use more Experiment points for engines. The elite and mark 5 reactors should be at least 25K of power.

Sorry for stepping on toes there...
However, I must maintain that, with the proper resources we can make some pretty good stuff. No they're not legendary items but they still beat out most of the regular loot that pops up. As for the 30K reactors...Since there currently is no consistent decay, reverse law of entropy applies here sooner or later....everyone will have one. The only logical choice would be to up the iron bar until we hit the hardware cap(ie: computers can only update targets so fast until they become unhittable aka LAG!!!) OR to drop the bar on our toes(NERF!!).
