I'm ashamed to ask this because i think i've been confused about things such as Armor

Is the Armor or the Hitpoints the amount of armor i have? If it is the armor... what the hell are Hitpoints?

Hitpoints = health for charactors or parts

The higher your hitpoints the more damage you (or part) can take before you die or in this case the ships armor is destroyed.

You can thank TSR (D&D) for the HP reference.

Ok so the Armor rating is how much damage the Item takes before it starts to chew up the Hitpoints?

Like the Armor=The Orenge bar on the radar?

You have to differ between Armor Plating and other parts.

Armor:
Basicly only the armor Value is important.

Once the Shields are down, all damage goes to the Armor Value of your Armor Platings.

Once they reach 0...

Armor on components:

Once the armor is gone, Components are hit (I assume randomly, unless reactor or engines are aimed for)

Again the first damage is taken by the armor there. In this phase the part does not suffer from it.

Once the armor goes to 0...

Hitpoints on Components:

At this point then the HPs are hit. The effectiveness of the part goes down the less HPs are available (engine getting slower, reactor produces less energy, weapons do less damage...)

Since the "effectiveness" of Armor is only their armor value, the HPs are very irrelevant here, and if i remember correctly the HPs can't even be hit, they will always be 100%.

Oh and yes, the Orange ring on the radar corrolates to 100% of the Armor-Armor points. Once it is gone, the Components take damage.
