Thread: Shipwright pricing. Is this the new Architect problem?

Ok I will start with what I have seen.

First day on live while going through the shipwright skill I saw a master shipwright in Coronet who was shouting that he was selling any fully equipped ships for 5k times the teir level.

Later that day, while in Bestine to sign up for Storm Squadron, I saw a player selling any and all ship chassis andequipmentfor 1k each.

A day or two later I saw a shipwright shouting their vendor had Tier 3 ships for 60k. I went to that vendor to check it out and they were actually decent ships.

Now I am not saying lets gouge the community. I am suggesting we have a summit to determine a minimum and maximum so we dont end up like architects. I was told by a weaponsmith friend, that is exactly what they did. They all got together, after seeing architect get bottomed out, and agreed on a minimum and maximum so the profession would not become a waste.

Also because of the wide range of prices I am starting to see some shipwrights going to other player's vendors and raping their vendor then selling what they got for a higher price. While this maybe acceptable it is in a way immorale. The only way to avoid this happening is to price your items high so no one would be interested to grab them and sell them. But this also kills the interest from customers.

The reason I am considered high priced is because of 1) People resellingour stuff, 2) Resources we had stocked up were the best out there, and 3) Because there was just too many customers for 3 of uskeep up. Now we are considered by the main stream as price gougers when in fact we are just trying to keep up and keep our profits for us and not someone else.

Of course ships and parts will always be needed thanks to decay but if we are having to do this without any real factory support we should at least decide on some way to get a general unwritten pricing rule between us all. But how do we figure this out? I dont know how the WS did it. So I am open to suggestions. Here are some of my ideas.

Base it on resource cost times 10 and dont goabove or below that price more then 20%.

Base on the level times a certain value (dont know yet what) and dont go more then 20% above or below.

Again I am not saying lets gouge the players. Giving a 20% above and below cost would allow someone who made an exceptional item not feel like they have to use a set price by selling it at 20% more. So lets discuss this. Maybe we can come to a gentleperson's agreement on this.

Listen SWG works with a player economy. I understand u want guidlines. But people will sell for what they think is worth selling them for and maybe to bring more customers.

I've talked about this before, and I'll probably talk about it more in the future, because it's always coming up.

I have a rep as one of the most expensive SWs on Kettemoor. I also have a rep for being worth every penny, and rarely get any crap for my pricing. On the contrary, my customers are happy to pay my 10/20cpu prices for ships/components.

the key, here, is a key to business. the aim of the business, of any business, is to make the customer value your products and services MORE then they value the credits they pay for it. If you do this, they'll pay happily. If you don't, they won't, or they'll complain. I value my time and resources and product-- that's why I price them high. I make my customers value my time and product and resources as much or more than I do-- that's why they pay me instead of someone selling for a fifth of what I do.

i already tried this post and got flammed. as long as thier are lot swap exploiters with hundreds and hundreds of harvestors pulling in everything themselves so they can sell at 2cpu the economy will never be fair and balanced. trust me i am going to push for the devs to come up with a way to end the lot swappers.

Currently I sell chassis at 5cpu, (basicly because I'm not rich and don't have the minerals to grind all the way to MSW). I am M. DE though...

I'm 3/0/2/0...

The biggest seller for me so far?

  • Unprogramed Droid Chips

  • Astromechs (Tier 1-3)

  • Flight Computers (Tier 1-3)

Unprogrammed Droid Chips? 1k per, 5 for 4.5k, 25 for 22.5k

# of people selling? Not that many....

Astromechs and Flight Computers are 2k/1k * Tier. Profit? Let's just say damn good.

So I've got my 6 heavy harvies mining copper/steel/ore Just so I can grind another couple boxes on MSW.

Profits from SW? Nil. Do I mind? No. Why? Because it's more about being self-reliant than otherwise. I just can't understand why people charge much more right now. There is too much competition, cut-throat competition to come out ahead. There are too many SW grinders sitting on stocks of Tier 1-3 ships. And the prices? Most people would rather get looted components for engine/cap/booster because loot drops have more mods than any MSW can research. There are too many lines of research, and not enough research points to go around for those. What will sell? Armor, shields, weapons, reactors, and missiles. Just my $0.02.

I'm currently underselling because i'm only 1-0-0-0 and I can't compete on a quality basis with other SWs. I don't have the resources/money to grind it, and I need to feed my harvies. I will slowly up my prices, as I get more exp points, better resources, etc.

Some were saying expect even a low level ship to run 500k, but I said a long time ago this would be pretty much like archetect, and that the grinding to reach MSW by TONS of people was going to absolutely flood the economy with chassis, causing a HUGE supply with little demand. This means little profit because you can always go to the next cheaper guy.

Hopefully after the rush is done (another week or two I suspect, the demand will drop so much that the candy losers killing the pricing wont even be able to sell anything and go find some other profession to destroy. Then only the set up shipwrights with enough patience to wait out the downturn will be the only ones to survive.

But that is just my opinion. I still think we need to set some of price range or price calc so we dont kill off this profession afterwards.

I have a few people that complaine about my prices, but when I compare the states with what they bought comapiered to what I can make it usually shuts them up... For example, i had a guy ask me how much for a mark 3 weapon, when I quoted him my price he got all bent out of shape, but when I told him my base unexpermented weapon was about 800 max damage more than what he had.... well 1: he shut up about pricing and 2: he and 3 buddies bought weapons from me.

As far as chassis go.... I've made 28 million in a week. I made 4 million yesterday.

Yea, I think for a lot of people (like me) they can't afford or don't have all the resources to master. So they do stuff like this to make mastering affordable. The danger is that the price could stick. If people are selling tier 5's at crazy prices that will be a problem. Once you're to that point, you don't need th xp. Could be people are cleaning out old junk resources this way.

My solution was to not master yet
As I harvest or earn mone for resources I'll work my way farther up the tree.

Acually i dont think its going to be a porblem down the road..

My guess is people will come up with good chasis, with a load out combo. You will be making the ship to sell as a whole package.

These will have there own feel as the shipwright makes um. WIth reverse engineering they can even tweak um more. To me thats why they all are gonig to be hand made. There is a wide range of mass also on these low end chasis. A 600 mass bonus on a ship that only has a 10k or soo mass is big. 11.6 and 12.1 thats a pretty biog differnce, that could be adding rear armor where there was none.

A good ship wright will have there vehicles tweaked that they are using every bit of mass, and maximum all there specials, firepower, vs defence, vs handling.

I think things will be very interesting down the road. I priced my stuff to what i think is fair, if it dont sell maybe it will in 2 months when all these cheapo's have decayed. I dunno just a thought

I am grinding towards MSW

But i am one off those stubborn to everything my self persons. And i do it cause i like crafting. I currently sell every part at 1 cpu just to make some money off it.

My idea is to keep a low profile shop with a few customers, but in return those will get excelent survice. I do this just for the fun part
