I've been doing a 'lower mass' range of reactor and boosters for some time now and I thought it fair to share the know-how with those who may not have cottoned on to this yet.
If you are craftingreactor or booster and want it to have lower mass without impacting its performance too much, then use abooster overdriver or reactor overcharger of a lesser mark - for example use a mark 3 optional upgrade in a mark 4 component, then craft normally. in this way you will save between 500 and 1k mass on the final product depending on the level an you will be amazed how little difference it makes to performance ( 100-300energy outputon reactors and 2-3 speed on boosters).

Wonderful tip, I've been wondering lately what the overall impact would be using lower Mark sub-components on higher Mark components. Thanks for the info!

Actually, with the awesome high-grade polymetric radioactive that spawned on our server (OQ=862, PE=938), I've been able to craft reactors containing an overcharger upgrade resulting in a generation rate higher than a reactor the next mark up. Note, I focus all my experimementation on generation rate. For example, I have a Mark I reactor with a generation of 13.7K.

Are you sure that is not a Mark II? That is a lot higher than the stats in this thread http://forums.station.sony.com/swg/board/message?board.id=profshipwright&message.id=11137 indicate possible.

Nice one - can you do a cross-server email and attach some of that resource please.
Seriously though one of our early spawnsof high-grade polymetric was OQ 984, PE 894, so that is our comparator on Chimaera for the stats of the reactors.
One of the main reasons I make more mark II reactors is not for the extra generation rate, but for the increased armour - decay and reactor overload kills a mark I reactor's armour very quickly.
BTW I think the 13.7k is a mistake or a fluke as the theoretical maximum generation rate of a mark 1 reactor is 12863 by my calculation.

I have actually been doing this on my Reactors for my X-wing and lower mass ships. It works great and allows me to load it with some really good parts. I never thought about it for Boosters but then again I have put together a really nice RE'd one that I have been using for a few months. Have to try it out on the booster and see what I can come up with.
