Thread: Am I missing something? Loading crafted shields changes stats...

Admittedly I don’t use my Shipwright skills too often so I’m not well up on all the issues (or some features for that matter), but I noticed this one today and was wondering what the deal is. I had a look through the stickies and didn’t see it.

Today I went to make myself a new Kimo, specially made for a specific purpose. Part of this was to make the forward protection as strong as possible.
So I made myself a Mark IV Shield along with an Overcharger, and managed to make a shield with forward hitpoints of 2059.2 and back HP of 1765.2.

When I went to load the shield into the ship, both the front and rear HPs became 1912.4, which is the average of the two original figures. If you take the shield out again, the stats remain fixed at these values

I’m guessing this is a bug, as what’s the point of having front and rear experimentation if they both end up the same?
But is this a long-standing known issue? Is it just not possible to have unbalanced shields?

I experienced this with RE'd shields as well... I was actually happy when it happened but i believe it to be a bug none the less. The original stats were 3800 front and something 2500 Rear and i too was going to use it for gunboat harvesting but i realized that they averaged and now i have like 3198 front and back. which is fine with me they are my best shields all around so i was extremely happy. Anyhow i don't have any answers but i do know it's not only with crafted items.

It was introduced in a patch some weeks ago. Apparently it was a bug for shields adjusted using the Shield Adjust command to remain stuck at the setting they were given until a shield reset was used, so they put in a featurette that re balanced the shield at every space session, and obviously the system has no way to distinguish between a crafted bias and one introduced as a result of Shield Adjust, thus all shields get rebalanced.

Working As Intended


Dev's fixed the above mentioned RE bug/exploit, and basicly removed the purpose to have 2 experimentation lines for front and back hitpoints... They need to either find a way so that crafted shields can keep different front and back stats when loaded, or consolated the experimentation lines. I vote for the first.
