I was wondering what the effect would be in the following:
I put in components to my ship. The energy needed for components is greater than the energy in my reactor. These numbers are now red.
If I was to fly in this state what would be the consequences? Damaged reactor?

If it's only a little in the red, it really won't do anything. If it's a lot in the red, some of your parts will be partially or completed disabled once you launch--starting with chaff and missile launchers and boosters, then moving on to more vital parts like your weapons, capacitor, droid interface, etc. So you can get away with some overconsumption, but not too much before you'll just end up disabling the things that're pushing you over the edge anyway.

As above, but don't forget you can use reactor overload droid commands. If you don't have them then either buy them off a vendoror talk to a friendly Privateer Pilot. You launch into space and then activate the reactor overload - it lasts your entire space session or until you repair. The use of the command will damage your reactor slightly, so if you are using a level 1 reactor be prepared to change it every few trips, level 2 reactors last much longer. Remember if your reactor armour is under 30 it needs to be changed, otherwise using reactor overload will cripple your ship.
These commands are also a great way to better use your ship's limited mass - buy a smaller, lighter reactor and use reactor overload. Most pilots can get away with level 1 or 2 reactors, thus only using up to 3.3k of mass (less if your friendly neighbourhood SW makes lower mass versions).
