Found this over on the Pilot's forum some time ago.

Technical Dev speak, short for "portalized object". POB basically means "something you can walk around in."
Sorsuub, Nova Cruiser, YT-1300, and (I think) the Decimator arePOB ships. You can bring up a group in them, decorate them, etc.
The Y-wing Longprobe, TIE Agressor, and (newly added to TC for privateers) Krayt Gunship are "multiplayer" ships, but you can only bring one person with you as your gunner.
I think they use POB to differentiate between the "walk around" ships and the "pilot + gunner" ones.

I read that it is a developer's term - Potalised Object - which I understand to meanthat two modes of interface are implemented and each is initiated by the use of a portal (sitting in a seat, entering a turretor exiting an operations station). The two modes are the ground-based operation when you are walking around, and the space-based one when you are piloting or manning a station (turret or ops).
I prefer to think of it as the simpler term 'People On Board', which sums it up for me.

It is a slightly wider term than for ships.
The term (Portalised OBject) as was explained in the beta refers as well as the ships to items such as player houses and player city buildings.

I thought they were referring to the state that these MP ships are in...ie. POB = Piece Of Banthapoodoo. Well, its good to know what it really means.
