Thread: Crafting Weapons

I've crafted a couple Blaster I and II and III's. I'm master SW and start by maxxing out all my experimental points on refire rate, then "vs Shields", then damage or something else. My problem is the highest "vs Shields" I've ever crafted is in the low to mid .500's with great or amazing success. Is this typical for crafted weapons? I see a lot of looted / RE weapons above and beyond the .650 mark.

My only advantageI see is my refire rate which is down in the .280's.Lower than any other looted / RE part I've seen.

What do you do to get the edge over looted parts? I'd really appreciate the input.

Yep, welcome to SW Our stuff works great for all but the top tier Pilots. I know a few Master Pilots that are still using exclusively crafted components. But if you're into PVP or top-tier PVE, REd always wins.

For weapons, we compete on refire and that's about it.

I just discovered another problem I was unaware of. I'm crafting Blasters. It looks like if I want an extreme effectiveness, I need to craft Disruptors or Ion Cannons. Does this sound about right?

It's not a "problem", it's just how SW works But yes, for extreme effectiveness, you'll need Disruptors (armour) or Ion (shields).

I wouldn't waste points on effectiveness.

If you experiment effectiveness you get an increase of around .007 per experimentation point.
So if you gun does 2000 average damage...that's an increase of 14 points of average damage...
If you experiment on max damage or min damage you get an increase of around 10 points average damage...

So far it looks like effectiveness is a good way to go...

But here's where the problem happens...
Effectiveness only works on either shields or armour only....
Where as max/min damage works on both.

hehe... thank you for witholding the "n00b" comments. This is my first crafting profession and sometimes I get a little overwhelmed with the amount of parts and possibilities of how to craft those parts. I have really learned to respect you SW vets. This is one heck of a detailed profession.

No problem. There are no stupid questions, unless they're in the FAQ

But you're already on the right track. It's my firm belief that you can't be a good SW unless you're also a Pilot. You can't make good components unless you know what stats are more important, what you'd be happy flying with. You have to know where pilots want their mass to go (weapons, shields, engines) and where they make compromises (DI, reactor, capacitor, armour).

As for shields/armour, what do you fly with? Significantly more shield than armour, I'd suspect, because that's what most pilots fly with. I've found NPCs to be much the same. Crank out a decent L7 Ion Cannon, with max in refire and the rest in min/max damage, and see how it performs next to a decent REd L7. You'll be surprised, I think. Takes about the same time to bring down a ship, for me. Biggest benefit to REd stuff is that it's much lower in mass and much lower in energy consumption.

The secret is to use your own stuff and tweak your experimentation to match what you need. Chances are, most people like touse components with similar stats.

Only benefit I personally have found with RE'd over Crafted is the ability to get high effectiveness in both shields and armor making it a useful all around weapon far as weapons go.

RE'd engines I hate to say I can't even touch my current L7 engine with a M5 or PoB engine. I RE'd it and it came out fantastic.

Top 95.9

Yes I can make faster engines but my question is simple. What will allow me to survive? Going faster and turning inside of the enemy? With this engine I can do both

I swear, SW's are the most helpful people out there. You can look at my sig and see where else I have to troll. I really appreciate your advice and encouragement, and I hope I will be able to help contribute to these forums as you people have done for me many times thus far!!!

Well, I do two types of weapon crafting. For myself and guild these are very good suggestions. If you just want to sell them to the general public, they tend to only look at max damage and mass. I can put up 2 low mass low refire and 10 with damaged maxed and the rest in mass and the ten will sell long before the 2 that are better.
