Yea, um...what do they do? Do they have a functional purpose, or are they like the paint jobs and just make you look cool?

(They don't really do anything. It would be cool if they impacted YPR, speed or overall mass or something. They just don't do anything.)

Its just like paint to me....
My ship just dosent seem as fast without the racing stripes and boy is it super slick with the strakes. Only thing i can do to make it any faster/cooler would be to add speed holes!!!

While they are not a major component, to say they do nothing at all is not correct. I added side strakes to my heavy z-95, and it added 50 points to the chassis armor, and 100 to the chassis hitpoints. AndI am reasonably certain it did not use any mass. Anything that helps my ships last a little longer is worth it to me.

Well they count as one of the components that can get shot up on your ship. So I guess you could lose your strakes instead of your engine in a fight. Might mean the difference between live or die. =)

it's an extra 200 points of damage soaking not done to your ship or useful components

They sell like hotcakes, if thats important to you. I sell them for 30,000 each. TIE Advanced and X-Wings are the most popular for me.
And yes, they are Zero mass.
