Thread: Tractor beam bug and cargo hold contents

Anybody else running into problems with the tractor beam graphic when fully zoomed IN to the cockpit? Basically the tractor works (installed in my Krayt weapon 3 at the moment), but I cannot see any graphic effect of the beam shooting when in cockpit view. If I zoom out at all the beam appears.

I fly almost exclusively in cockpit (no cockpit frame) view, so not seeing a beam makes it very difficult to aim the thing. I can just barely see the 'fizzle' effect on my target of the invisible beam hitting it. I'm pretty sure I've tried the TB in different gunpoints with the same problem, but not on different ships. I'll try that tomorrow.

Still need to do some testing on the actual effectiveness of using a TB versus one or two Mining lasers. I seem to be much better at blowing those rocks up faster then i can pull them in using my (admittedly bugged) tractor beam. Combine that with the annoying "fly by" misses as the chunk zooms past me because I wasn't aimed just right and there's alot of extra "running around" time using that TB. Combine the ML with the ubiquitous weapon overload 3 and they blow up in no time at all. I'll run some more tests with a stopwatch soon to see how long it takes me to fill up a hold using one method or the other.

Next: Any way to view the contents of the cargo hold while in flight? Seems like a simple, obvious thing, but I only have the %% figure pop up on the right hand side when bringing in asteroids. That's nice and all, but not so good for seeing exactly how much and of what type my hold contains. Hopefully there's a window or radial option i've just missed here.

Yes, I have talked about this in the post-RotW thread already. The mining lasers have the same problem. If you zoom out, you'll actually notice there is a "beam effect" that projects from the laser/tractor and another "beam effect" that projects at an angle perpendicular and vertical to the end of the laser/tractor.

I have also found it helpful to turn off particular effects altogether. I personally find them annoying and idiotic looking.

Count yourselves lucky you haven't tried to use either weapon from a turret. The muzzle flash is nearly blinding. The tractor beam, in particular, is very bad. The flash fills most of the screen, making it very difficult to even see your target, let alone the 'sparkles' inticating you're hitting the rock.

I have my mining laser linked with my other guns. I fire everything at the asteroid, even thought the other weapons have no effect. It makes targeting much easier since I can see exactly where I am shooting. I can plink the little rocks fairly quickly too.
