I think this current environment is temporary. It would be wise to wait until an equalibrium is reached before deciding what changes need ot be made. At some point, 90% of the pilots out there will have mastered the profession and pretty darn close to their ideal gear. What will the economy be like then? I think we will have to wait and see.

"pretty darn close to their ideal gear"
Well ship parts can wear out relatively fast in comparision to ground game items.

i think the devs should atleast make it that a looted part has to be re'ed before it can be used by a pilot. right now if you find an uber part you can just drop it into your ship right from the get go.

I had hoped RE would be a little different:
1. Give the shipwright the opportunity to select or tamper with settings or something to improve the final part.
2. Require some resources to be input to get a new final product.
3. Have the reverse engineered part broken down into components/powerups that could be used by the shipwright to make brand new parts.
That would have been somewhat fun and been something to play around with. Right now RE is essentially just a sorting activity and an inventory nightmare.

Greetings I am an SW, part of the reason there isnt many out there is due to the EXP per Resource used equation they scaled it down to stop everyone and they're nephew from becomming master shipwrights over night however all that happened was a lack of the needed resources for others to master the class... i believe i read somewhere that you need over 2 million in steel alone to master the class... not to mention all the other resources... currently i am 3/2/1/3 in SW and currently through "experimentation" i have noticed that all items EXCEPT Shields, weapons, and armor are beter as looted than as player made...
Should REing have been done differently my answer would be yes.
Explanation:
Currently you need Identical items to RE : this isnt even reverse engineering... Reverse engineering (Taken from Earth and Beyond) would result in the base components to create said items... in this case resources....
Problem: Too many different items to collect the correct ones for REing, Mobs dont drop the corrisponding item levels... ie: tier 4 Mobs still drop Level 1 components
Fix: Scale loot corresponding to the tier of the mob, reduce the overall number of different item "names"
Currently the factor of needing identical items to reverse engineer is leading to over stocked vendors, over filled houses, overfilled inventories, overfilled Bazaar's
I do not know about you all but i am 3/3/3/3 pilot and i have a vendor in my house with named backpacks for each looted component, and i have taken down quite a few tier 5 targets and i have maybe 2 or 3 tier 4 items... i have nothign higher than tier 4, and due to the immense number of different names out there i do not forsee myself getting the needed 4 of said item to reverse engineer it...
The way REing is explained in the guides i have seen says you can take any items of the appropriate level and drop em in... to RE, but it has been my experiance that they have to be IDENTICAL items in name and level.. stats may differ...
Everything stated above is just my opinion!!!!
Thank You

You know they don't have to be identical. You can take any RE level 3 capacitor and match it up with other Level 3 capacitors and reverse engineer it. They took the identical name/manufacturer out. In beta it was a real nightmare, luckily that is gone.
However, I do have the occasional anomoly. I have 4 level 4 reverse engineering reactors. For some reason they are 2 sets of 2. I need to look at them more closely to figure out why they won't go together. Every now and then I get this, seems to mostly be with shields and reactors.

It has come to my attention that ANYONE can use the tools to rev eng. Only SWs get a higher bonus.
I'm guessing most SWs in live do not know this.

no, you can't do it unless you're a shipwright (I just tried this yesterday with a non shipwright). My normal, NON shipwright character CAN NOT RE stuff... it says you lack the skill to do it. My shipwright character is the only one that can. That is not true.

First off I am not a SW. Though I have been toying around with the idea of making one over the past few days.
Reason being there is an extreme lack of SWs. Even more so of ones that have the time to cater to the general public for reverse engineering.
Right now on every server there are people walking around with more ship parts than they know what to do with. IMHO, reverse engineering should have been a limited use kit. That SWs can mass produce and sell as you would any other item on a vendor. The kits would come with say 5 uses. Simply feed in the desired parts, tweak a few settings and out pops your item. Though firespray parts would still have to be taken to a SW when they did occur.
This would reduce the number of parts in the world. Give the shipwrights another long term money making item and help all the players out in general.
I myself have hit Imperial Ace. I enjoyed the missions very much. However, I'm left with few options now.
Collecting better parts, helping friends or PVP. Well for pvp I need the best parts I can come up with. Which leads back to the initial idea for this thread.
Opinions?
