Using the exact same types of resources when building, getting the exact same amount of successes, every step of the process is alike, when I build a Kimogila neutral ship it gets more mass than its heavier counterpart the Ixyien. The Rebels get high mass early with the Y-Wing, and the Empire gets high mass with the TIE Bomber.... do neutrals ever get mass in the same range? Not counting the YT-1300.

You lost me here Zowrath.
But let me take a stab at what I think you're getting at. Think of the mass number as simply an abstract representation of what each ship can hold, not the actual MASS of the ship. Some ships are designed to hold more mass units than others. This is what the mass number represents.

yes, for example building a Kimogila gives it a mass value of say 83000 which means it can hold equipment that adds up to no more than 83000. But when building a Ixyien it gets a mass value of 80000. So this ship, which is the next level ship, holds less components than the Kimogila.
Edit: Also, the Kimogila gets almost 80% more hitpoints than the Ixyien. Why upgrade to a higher ship if it can't hold more than its predecessor? :-/

Because differant chassis effect the yaw, pitch, roll, top speed, and acceleration. I.E. an X-Wing has a lot less mass than a Y-Wing Longprobe, but the X-Wing handles like a dream compared to the Y-Wing.

yeah, but it cant hold as much heavy equipment at one time as an Y-Wing. If you load the best weapons and the best shields on a Y-Wing the X-Wing wouldn't stand many hits in a dog fight though. But then again this was not ment to be a discussion about that.
I just built a tier4 class neutral ship, the Rihkxyrk, and it is not far behind the Y-Wing in mass. Just a pity that I would have to wait another 1.2mill skillpoints before I can fly one. I like the brute force approach :-)

Best is a relative term -- just because a ship has a higher total mass doesn't mean it's better. Using the Y-Wing vs. X-Wing approach, the Y-Wingmay have super good shields and armor, but eventually they will be drained by the X-Wing and ifthe Y-Wingcan't manage to hit it while it lies circles around the Y-Wing.

yes agreed the mass level are not linear but then this adds more content to the game thankfully we wont be in the situation that we have the equivelant of "composite clones" ie everyone kitted out the same
