well, the flavor of the month is over. yeah, many realizing it takes a lot more work in this profession than probably antisipated. beside the fact you have to know what your are mixing to get the real result you want. best resource isn't going to be the best item like the other professions. its the best attribute that going to get what you want.

i was master shipwright the night jtl went live. about 2 weeks into jtl there was a mass storming for a steel on ahazi called miviom duralloy. it was/is supposably one of the best steels on our server through out swg history. anyhow about 2-3 weeks into the game everyone was looking for it and it was pushing 30 plus cpu on the ahazi auctions and was in short supply by those willing to part with it. here is my observations on shipwrights since miviom is popular for shipwright crafting.

observation 1: about a month ago mioviom was 30+ cpu. this week: i got ticked off at the game and cancelled every account. put up 1.3 million units of the steel on auction to put the money into the city hall since i was one of the first 5 members of the guild and want the guild city hall to be there awhile after i leave. average cpu for the 1.3 million units sold... 11 cpu.

observation 2: i have some high 980 or so oq 920 or so pe radio active (at school and cant remember specifics) month ago it pushed 25 cpu. on the auction 11 cpu

obsrevation 3: 3-4 weeks ago i would log in when i got home from school to maybe 6 or 7 custom orders per day with about 3-6 million in sales per day on top of the custom orders. last week i took a week off to work on final projects for school. after a 5 day break i find in my email: 1 custom order and 4 million sales over a 5 day period.

demand i think is in decline. as to how and why... /shrug

There are3 other reason you forgot about....

1) the "honymoon" period is over and newness has worn off

2) alot of crafters that picked this profession up realize there's more money to be made in their previous profession

3) Every other crafting profession (aside from architect) you have an oppertunity with CA's and FS skills to really rise above the rest... this isn't true for SW.

I think a lot of what you guys have mentioned is on the money (or the lack thereof).

I'm under the impression that a vast majority of pilots have got their ship of choice and the chassis market has really shrunk as a result. Shipwrights relying on grind chassis's to sell in order to finance their grind are pretty screwed. Shipwrights under the impression that making chassi's is the true calling of the profession are also probably dropping left and right from disillusionment due to low sales or low prices.

On the other hand, I find that my market for high end components to have risen along with the average pilot's knowledge of their ships. And the market for missiles/counter-measures has continued to be steady.

Honestly I entered SW just to make ships for myself and friends, but have really gotten into it. I get a kick out of making the reactors that make people go wide-eyed and say 'DUDE!!!'

(My real problem is where to come up w/ the last 3 points of SP to fill in my final 2 boxes & make master... something important is going to have to go. Can't give up any merchant... otherwise I fall off the planetary map or my vendors' "allowable items" number drops below the number of items they are currently stocked with. I have already sacrificed all of surveying and have to bribe people to find good spots for me. I'm afraid one my combat professions is going to come under the blade. +sigh+ )

I've been crafting since launch, its not the profession quite as much as the game. Crafting is tedious. It gets boring real quick. The big differnce with shipwright is you can't factory much of anything. Factorying kept a lot of the other long standing professions from quickly loosing members, cause you could delegate your crafting to a factory and go do something else.

Yeah as a tailor I can throw in some CA's and get leet clothing Anyway I agree that SW numbers have died down. Anyone noticed they don't havea vendor catagory in the planetary map?

Yeah they do, my vendors are under the ship category along with about 50 others on Naboo.

I for one say thank god for the lack of factory support, this way those of us who are dedicated crafters can up and grind out good components and find a market. Your low-ballers out for a fast buck are going to be selling the dirt cheap chassis. Let them. My X-wings are still 300k (that's 5 CPU, Mildred) and I sell one or two a week, that's fine. I sell 3-4 tier IV weapons, 3-4 armor and engines a day, that piles up cash a lot faster.

Edit: Oh, whoops, I forgot the point of the first post :-p Right, I'm the #4 SW vendor on the Dantooine map, and I"m afraid to move my vendor because the list is still 2 pages long.

There are several factors. One is that people got their ships and components, so you are now replacing items and do not have a lot of newbie sales.

I know whole guilds that have moved on to EQ2 or WoW. I was asked to take over one rather large guild's SW operation because the SW decided to do something else in return for all of their resources. Guess what, haven't had to do much as the guild went from 150 members to 10 active members in a few weeks.

I am selling a lot more consumables and high end items than Mark I - III items now. However, eventuall I expect SW to be more like a job shop operation. You get specific orders and fulfil them.

Hey all!

I've begun to notice the overall number of shipwright shops on the global map beginning to thin out.My corner of the map aroundTheed seems to be missing 1/3 the Shipwright waypoints that it had 2 weeks ago.Is the same trend starting to happen on your servers?

A few have predicted that many would abandon SW once the following happened:

1) Chassis market got saturated with fierce undercutters

2)Some SW's realizing thatresource quality counts for components and thier grindage crap was only good for chassis (which they would have a hard time selling because of reason #1).

3) Pilots would begin to seek out quality components, whicg grindage SW's can't market to

..........and therefore forcing many fledgling SW's out of the market. This is good news to some, a lot of SW's producing thier components with crap will hopefully be the first to go. It may be too early to call it, but it really looks like it's just starting to happen on bloodfin. Anyone else care to confirm/deny similar trends on the server?

I do believe the number is declining. I am someone who is guilty of reason #1. I charge no more than 2 cpu per ship. I mine my own resources and can do it. I am grinding out one-two skill blocks a week, but I am able to make money on my ships. Name is Lau'ra on Starsider. Need ships ask me for my vendor waypoint.

Yes - we've got over the peak now.
All those who got JtL within the first couple of weeks on Infinity are now on Tier 4.
I get the occasional order for Master level ships, and I get a couple of sales a day of lower level ships.

I expect an influx of newbies just after Christmas though, so sales will pick up then for a bit, but it's nice to be able to get online and do 1/2 hou of reverse engineering and then get the opportunity to fly for a bit !!!

Having made 6 million credits in just a few weeks by selling chassis at 3cpu, I'm rather pleased with how it's turned out. I don't feel that I've ripped anyone off, and made a decent amount of cash at the sametime.
