I think its possible but I just want to make sure as I just came upon a nice find and want it to last as long as possible.

and I heared that a fully decayed part will stay at 10 armor and 10 hitpoints. Does that mean I can use it as long as I'm careful that my shields do not go down to zero?

Decay occurs after you repair more than 10 points of damage. Therefor, once the part decays down to 10 HP, it can't decay any further; you'll never be repairing more than 10 points of damage.

And yes, because REing takes the best stats from each component, you can RE a 10 HP component and it won't affect the outcome.
