Here is what I have noticed so far, and I am a master SW.
Looted is better for:
Capacitors
Engines
Boosters
Crafted is better for:
Reactors
Weapons
Armor
Shields seem to be on the fence.
I cant not come anywere near looted capactors or engines, boosters I can get close to.
Kinda wierd this seems really off balance, I wonder if this is by design or just needs to be balanced a bit.
Any thoughts?

its total crap i re a lvl 2 capacitor it had way way way higher stats than a mark 5 and weight 1500 as apposed to the mark 5s 15000 what thef is going on here
why are looted items so much better than crafted i meant total bs ,i cant even sell components anymore cause they weigh 100 times more than anything that is looted
and why the f does mass go down on stronger ships at higher tiers yet weigh goes up on components
dont say crap bout my spelling or pronunciations cause im pissed and not typing good or thinking good w t f did i master sw for when any newbi piolet with marketing 3 can out sell my components

I haven't looked at engines, capacitor, boosters and shields as of yet... I'm just not crafting those things, so I can't say.
What I can say is that I'm getting better results on crafted armor and weapons that I'm seeing in loot drops, and that's before I start tweaking... the upgrades are really nice for tuning your weapons to the use your pilot wants.

I've seen some dramatically overstatted reactors. Cert1 reactor (with cert1 mass) that has 12100 power. That kicks the heck out of crafted, and can be used in high tier vehicles (like interceptors) with real mass restrictions.
Likewise, dropped weapons can be amazing, especially after RE. i've got RE3 blasters, cert 3, that do .8 vs shields and .6 vs armor, 600-980 damage, equal or less power per shot, equal refire rate, equal or less reactor maint. the only downside to it was a really high mass comparatively. That blows the heck out of any mid-range blaster I've ever made. On the higher REs, the fact that you get the best number in all categories from so many selections is going to best any crafted item, just because you never (even with 15 points) have enough to cover EVERYTHING, yet with RE you inherit all strengths.

i compleatly agree caps mainly is what i seem to be having a problem with
in the begginging i thought the whole point was the crafters had a upper hand over the loot drop items =/ why did i waist so many resourses on this profession when i cant seem to (at master) beat the regular drops (avarage) *sigh
I feel your pain....... I meen it i feel it!

I dont even bother with crafting unless someone asks me for something i dont have on hand in the starport. I just have my guild pool thier loot together and I sell it. In return I supply my guild with free ships. I also buy and trade in loot at the starport. Loot sale and resale is very profitable for me.
