Okay, so I have recently returned to SWG after well over a year off. I think The Droid Invasion was the last publish when I left. So I decided to take my crafter account up the Shipwright tree. It looked interesting. However, something stunned and confused me quickly. I see there's a new resource system. Space and 'roids. Okay, sounds fine. Blasted a lot of rocks in Eve Online for days on end. I can handle a few hours of this. However, i don't have a mining laser or a cargo hold. I've ground out a little in Shipwright (3/1/1/1) I see I can make a Mining Laser, however, it requires asteroid resources to craft. As does the cargo hold.
What confuses me, you ask? Well, how the hell were the first mining lasers and cargo holds crafted when you need these to mine the proper resources yet to need these resources to make the mining laser and cargo hold you need to mind the resources? Yeah...that logic could loop for a while. Is there another method of acquiring these resources? Other than buying from players. I am just trying to figure out how it started.

Hi,
I wondered that also, but basically you get all the starter components by doing a ROTW Quest,. You have to go and see Flash Harrison on Kashyyk (i think it's the 2nd or 3rd level of the 'tree')
He will start you on your way, and as you progress through the quests you get a cargo hold, mining laser, etc... once you have the resources you can make better ones yourself.
The Quest is currently bugged in that you can't actually finish it to get your Y8 Mining Ship, but that is going to be fixed in the next publish, but it's not essential to start mining!

Thank you! I was thinking to myself that there may have been a quest reward item for this stuff. That will help greatly to get me going and on my way. I think you again for shedding a little light on this.

Another option is to contact an existing Shipwright. I have been know to lend them out to people to get started. You can also do a vendor search some one should have what you need for sale. You do not need a tractor beam to mine but it does increase the yeild. There is a very good FAQ in the stickes that explains asteroid mining.

You may want to find a Large Cargo Hold for Starfighters. It currently has a max capacity of 1550, which saves a lot of landing and launching compared to the reward one, which I think is 500 units.
