its equivalent to certification, you can RE whatever level your total is, so if you have a total of +8 chasis and armor reverse engineering, you can RE up to level 8 armor. As for your second question, the shipwright skill tree is divided into four branches (obviously) one is for chasis and armor, one is for propulsion (engines and booster) one is for systems (capacitors, droid interfaces and reactors) and the last is for armaments (shields and guns)

So, is reverse engineering tier 1 stuff worth the effort (since that is all you can RE at Noice Shipwright)

yes, you can get firespray schems from it, i got disk 1/8 on a level 1 part

OK, looking at the Shorwright tree over lunch... I see in each line (maybe not in weapons...) a Reverse engineering stat that is gained at each box/level.
What is this stat used for?
I remember Chassis/Armor Reverse Engineering, Propulsion Reverse Engineering, and Systems Reverse Engineering.
The numbers seem to run from 1 to 10 (Novice->Master) but I cannot find anywhere that tells you what they are for?
Is there a chance to "critical failure" reverse engineering, and this helps offset that?
Can anyone enlighten me?

Even as an Ace, I use RE'd level 1 armor, reactors, droid interfaces, and boosters for their low mass when I'm trying to squeeze a good gun and shield onto my A-wing.

I have gotten a total of 3 of my 8 Pieces from level one stuff, it is just that much easier to get, and as "random" as it is the formula of 1 piece per 300 parts at each level seems to work out an average.
I have gotten 2 from level 8 and 1 parts
1 from level 6, 4, 3 and 2 parts
level 8 seems to be the focus for good enough parts for fighters and so, I am reengin a lot of that for guildies, and level 1 parts fall off trees, I am actually due for anoth piece from a level 1 soon...
One day I got 5 disks, 4 hours of reengineering, still looking to trade a 3 for a 5...

Thanks for all the great input!
I have one more question. As I get better at reverse engineering, higher tiers generate higher benefits in reverse engineering, according to the FAQs. Is this benefit to RE due to the parts, or my skill?
In other words, as a Master Shipwright, if I re-engineer a piece of level 1 armor, will I get a 1% boost, or a 6% boost?

Hello, I looted a level 10 droid interface with level 7 reverse engineering. If I use this component to a SW to reverse engineer it, will this component count as level 10 or as level 7 component?
thanks

It will depend on the first item you put into the C.A.T...
If you put this part in i'll show a level 10 part...
If you put in one of the level 7 parts in first i'll RE as a level 7 part.

I see, thanks.
I'm collecting ships part for my ultimate ship
It's taking alot longer than I thought since most looted parts are junk and drop rate in kessel is pretty low.

If it has an RE level of 7, it has level 7 stats ... the good ones are the ones with a HIGHER RE level than their cert level, because you can make better equipment for lower-level use by putting it in first.

Main reason i want to keep this part is because it has relatively low mass compared to other DI, if this part count is level 7 components, then I probably can't use it.

The certification levels are a bit misleading...for looted parts, their stats are based mostly on the Reverse engineering level...
If you get a Cert level 10 part with an RE level 7, you can compare it to the regular Cert Level 7 parts and find the stats are comparable.
The only difference is you'll need Master Pilot box to use the lvl 10 part where as if the part was RE'd as a level 7 part you'd only need the teir 3 box.
