Thread: Why I wanted a ShipWright

Ok, so I see lots of threads about the loss of shipwrights on the servers, and how we get no love, and blah, blah, blah....

I must share, for I have a different perspective.

On flurry, I have a Master TKA, Master Doc, Smugglers Aliance ACE...Love that big wookie...anyway, I found it very hard to get parts RE'd because as you all know, THERE ARE NEVER ANY SHIPWRIGHTS ON! I had 2 other characters (on 2 other servers, I don't believe in buying multiple copies of the game) and of all the professions I have tried, I never tried a crafting proffesion.

I know, stupid me...but hey...

So when SOE gave everyone with JTL for a specific time (3 months?) 75k per character per server, I thought, WHY NOT!? I will start a Shipwright on a new server....75K is a good start for seed money, I can make that grow....

How little did I know.

Well I am happy to say that I am currently 3, 3, 3, 4 Shipwright with approximately 10mill in credits (thanks only to the veteran rewards I sold) and I am ready to finish off, as soon as a new spawn of steel happens. Using JTL for a source of cash, I am sitting at 4,4,4,4 RSF - because I can't seem to solo the exit mission - and I can generate about 200K-300k in credits selling loot from one run in space. I use that to buy resorces I need to grind up one box so I can RE the parts I kept, as they are really good stats (Level 1 reactor with 13.5k generation...looted!) and keep me in awsomeness all day. I have one vendor for storage and xp in merchant, but here is the wierd part...

I DO NOT PLAN ON SELLING COMPONANTS OR CHASSIS TO PEOPLE.

I DO NOT WANT TO MAKE A PROFIT OFF OF SALES

That's right, I became a Shipwright just so I can RE my own stuff and play with the JTL ships all I want...I make more money as a pilot than as a Shipwright, and I don't feel the need to spend 20hrs a week keeping a vendor stocked, spamming at a starport in the hopes of selling something.
I will make something for someone if they ask, but I don't wear a tag, so no one does. After I make master SW, I will wear the badge with pride, but I still will not make things for sale on a vendor. I will probably just master merchant and delete my vendors. I will RE for free any parts anyone brings to me, and if they want something specific, then I will work with them one on one to get it right. I have several chassis that I created while grinding, not the max mass but close, that I am seriously thinking of putting on the bazaar for 6k each. Just to get rid of them. I know someone will swoop down and buy them all just to put them on their vendor, but I hope that some Noob out there will be looking at the right time and get one for a low price, thus keeping them in the game a little longer.

That's cool...your playing your game your way....that's the way it should be. I have to admit it's nice making stuff to outfit your own ship........

I know a lot of people that became shipwrights because of the lack of RE parts and hight qualiy crafted ones.

The problem with RE parts is the sheer number of parts that you must store in order to make good parts. 10 items needed for 1 Lvl.10 part. Now with the reduction in the drop rates of the loot, the drop in the number of pilots and the fact that many pilots sell thier loot to the chassis dealer for cash, good RE parts have become very hard to find.

It's very frustrating to us pilots tring to find that ultimate low-mass high performance parts for our A-wings or TIE Advanced. Fortunately, one of my frustrated pilot buddies took up shipwright so I can take my parts to him for RE'ing. At this time, I have over 350 parts in storage waiting to get enough pieces to have them RE'ed.

If crafted parts could be made much better, that would help the sales for shipwrights, the needs of the pilots, and the need of people like yourself that take up the SW proression in an already saturated market. And it will save you from spending your skill points on something that you hardly do. This needs to be fixed

It's the same reason why I mastered Shipwright. Lot trades are work. So is putting up a vendor. I refer my friends to two of the best shipwrights on my server (Modaan and O'Hafi) when they need a great chassis or crafted item. I only deal in RE'd loot. Play the game the way you want to, man.

Amazing..
I posted this on the pilot thread and recieved several responses asking me "why are you posting this?", "I don't understand, what are you complaining about" or "you are missing the point of cooperation in the game" or some such thing.

Here I find support.

I like you guys better.

Hahaha that is EXACTLY what I did! Well I was new anyway. I came on board about 3 months ago and SW is all I wanted to be. I came here because of JTL only personally I dont much care for the ground combat (something about MMORPGs that state men with bare knuckles and clubs hit way harder then a rifle!). I love being a pilot and I always wanted to ensure I would have the best possible equipment. I am currently 4234 and I have sold ONE MISSLE PACK! Oh and an Airframe some wookie wanted and offered me 50K for it was a Tier2 ship and I was grinding so HEY!

I plan on putting up vendors though when I get enough merchant. I wouldnt mind selling but thats not important to me. I have alot of fun in space and i make a TON of money there so what do I need the ground for? lol

I took up Shipwright for the exact same reason. I wanted to be able to tinker with my own and my friend's ships.

When I mastered I did set up a store. I have all my grind chassis on a vendor, and I sell a few of those a week. I also do a little reselling if I see another shipwright dumping off. I specialize in RE loot, and my crafting "experiments" go on the vendor as well. Since there's no factory support I craft on my terms. It's a small store but even without spamming or advertising outside of being on the map I've gotten a small number of repeat customers and make enough credits along with what I make in space to be comfortable.

It's about playing the game on your own terms. I knew if I tried to run a large shipyard I'd drive myself crazy, plus I don't have the lots or support to maintain one. So I have a small shop and I have fun with the profession.

Yes he does. He has a secret alt, though. Just send him an e-mail. Let me share something with you guys that Modaan did for one of my fellow guildies:

From www.infinity-guild.com

Those of you who monitor the crafter's corner have already heard of Modaan. For those of you who don't, I'd like to bring to light his actions, last night.

Last night, Soogo accidentally deleted his starship and every component on it. Now, I can make a chassis just fine, but all of you pilots know how difficult it is to replace all the components you've got on your ship by the time you're a 4/4/3/3 Pilot. Loot, especially reward loot, is far superior to anything that we Shipwrights can make and impossible to replace.

I told Modaan last night about what happened soon after Soogo broadcast the incident over guildchat. To make a long story short, Modaan graciously provided Soogo with a new chassis, an RE'd Reward Shield, an RE'd Reward Engine, and several RE'd guns free of charge. I've seen those RE'd reward components alone sell for over a million credits, each.

(rest of text deleted)

...........................

We dropped off a few bags of un-RE'd components as a way of saying "Thanks." But they don't begin to come close to the total value of the package he gave to Soogo.

I flat out became a shipwright and a pilot because its closer to being a smuggler in the game then smuggler is I make ships go faster by tinkering with looted parts and experimenting with parts I make and flying my ship as fast as I can make it go. To me that MUCH more like what Han Solo did then slicing cans open and buying faction bases.
