Is there a reason to use better reactors than the minimum of power that I need? Do weapon capacitors charge faster? Does my ship fly faster? Do my weapons damage more? Are my shields more powerful or recharge faster? Does it have any effect on boosters?
I was surprised when I was recently able to equip my TIE Advanced with a level 1 reactor, level 7 shield, level 6 enginie, and 2 level 7 weapons?
Is there some reason why I should be using a better reactor?

Droid programs.
Droid programs can boost your energy needs. Yes, there's reactor boosting programs, but at the same time, it's possible even your boosted reactor may not put out enough power.
That's really the only reason to get a reactor that exceeds your baseline needs.

The capacitor recharge droid program boosts the energy required, as does the weapons overload, engine overload, shield overload and any other overloading droid program. If you dont have the reactor power after you use one of the programs everything but engines will shut down.
While there might not be any direct boost for having a better reactor, it allows you to use the droid programs that boost your effectiveness by like 50%

As far as I know the only thing that improves engine speed, damage, etc. are droid programs.
Surplus power give you no benefit whatsoever. Find someone who makes a GOOD reactor and you can get away with using a mark 1 reactor for quite a while, and save a bunch of mass to boot. I've been trying to pass this info on to my customers as much as possible. Whenever someone needs custom work because of a tight mass budget, the FIRST question I ask them is if they considered downgrading their reactor (if they have a power surplus). 90% of the time they can downgrade a reactor level or two and still have enough juice to run everything. Then again I make some kick-ass reactors.

I been wondering the same on capacitors. If i get my weapons with very low energy per shot use, then the same would be true with a capacitor, which in turn would reduce then need on the reactor energy output
