Hello all,

I have been considering developing shipwright business associations and was wondering what kinds of experience you may have with partners, subcontractors, mining partners, etc. Any and all sage advice is welcome.

Thanks

no, wait, i saw this game... "pong" i think it was called. it was really easy to understand! maybe you could make swg more like pong! think of it! fast paced action! iconic characters! MORE FUN!

I did this and it worked very well when demand was very high. 3 of us worked together under one brand name with the same resources and stat goals. One maintained the vendor and bought all produced product from the other 2 at 80% of retail.

It worked great until demand plummetted anyway, then the extra 2 were no longer needed and we parted ways. Going from 280mil in sales in December to 75mil in December was a massive hit and our arrangement just didn't work anymore - the merchant ended up not making money because they were carrying the capital costs of everything in order to maintain vendor stock.

I suppose it would work on an 'order' basis - where you decide you need 10 cert 7 engines and contract that out, but demand really isn't high enough to facilitate such a need is it?

On resources, I have always bought 95% of my resources and have a nice list of miners who sell to me below market rates because I buy everything they can mine - they know what I like and go out of their way to keep me in business, fueling their income at the same time.

Honestly though, my example worked because I had strong relationships with a lot of people and a lot of money to back the huge capital investments at the time. I probably have between 30 and 50 million units of unusedresources stashed here and there now though.

I'm set for any rainy day.

The biggest need is pilots. From a SW point of view the thing you always need more of is looted parts. Next make sure you have a good DE to work with. After that you have 2 major needs Miners and Vendors. You dont need to be a merchant to sell parts you need to know a merchant who can sell your parts.
