For those of you who have not realized it yet but extraction rate is equal to damage / 100. So if you have a 900 to 1400 damage laser. For every small astroid chunk that you vapourize you get 9 to 14 units of resources.
As for tractored in rocks I'll edit this post out when I figure it out. (basically go to an astroid, blow up a rock, tractor in ONE rock, land on planet, unload, look at the number, repeat several times to establish base value.)
OK I got lazy and blew up a bunch of rocks and made sure I only tractored in 30. Resources in hold after I landed was 600...so I'm guessing tractor beams have an extraction rate of 20.
So if you can get a Mining laser with over 2000 average damage I guess you'd be extracting more then tractor beam can.

I wonder if armor effectiveness enhancers up the harvesting rate.

I believe DP indicated that the quest reward lasers were going to have the extraction rate statistic removed (i.e., it was never intended to be displayed).

"Extraction rate is not displaying properly on crafted mining lasers---known issue, and I'll be fixing it soon. Extraction rate is really just a number derived from damage by dividing your min/max damage by 100---you'll find that the higher you experiment your damage, the higher your extraction rate is, even if it doesn't display properly.
Thanks.
Thanks.

Now that I got this thread started about extraction rates. I got a question for you guys.
Would you perferMining Laserswith a high extraction rate or quicker refire rate?

I've been building higher extraction rate (through use of max damage upgrades). I find 2 hits from a Mark 3 laser will break up a mid-size chunk, so refire really doesn't matter to me, plus I use the tractor beam for the main harvesting.

Updated post to add tractor beam extraction rate (20 units per rock).
