Thread: The solution on how to fix the Y-8 miningship
Give shipwrights 2 new items to craft:
1. a Y-8 tractorbeam that pulls in the big chunks.
2. a Y-8 processingplant that processes the chunks.
This will accomplish the following:
You can park next to a asteroid, use the pilot mining laser to get the big chunks, then tractor it into the ship with the top turret.
The speed (shipwright experimental) of the processingplant might slow the mining but gets more resources out of the chunk then blasting it !
end note, if a small tie fighter canpull the small chunks in it, why cant the LARGE Y-8pull the big ones?
Please stay on topic...

I think what is making it tough is I've read a few posts of mining teams that have figured out how to make that ship work very well for mining. Judging by what they said, the Y-8 is hardly useless. I wish I could say so myself, but I spend too much time in the shop to finish my ace
still one of my good customers is working to build up a mining operation. If I get time, I'll go out with him and see what we can work out.

Ive read those posts and I think they are full of it. When you consider the number of people that could be manning fighters I think they are mining at a slower rate. Sure the y-8 might (with massive practice) outmine a single fighter but not 4 bwing or heavy xwing.
I think your idea is briliant and simple, its great and would fix a lot of things.
Make the big chunks float in slower, you get the same yeild for the big chunk as you would if you had tractored all of its small chunks, plus a small bonus with the processor.
You can still tractor small pc's, but 33% faster than smaller tractor beams.
So, Elite mining laser on the nose, Elite tractor on top and a rail gun on the tail for defense, yeah, that would be real cool.

I'm on Eclipse which is a heavily populated server. I'm also in space often and I can testify that I NEVER see a Y-8 flying anywhere much less being used for mining.
I find such stories of teams using the Y-8 effectively difficult to believe.
it would take two people with cordinated effort to make it work. But there are still some POB mining bugs that make it harder than it should be that also affect the Y-8.
With two people working, they could haul in the same amount in 20 min. The only real difference is that it can hold a lot more. Why is there an elite mining laser that is barely better thana Mark III. It shoul either act like a tractor beam and haul in 20 units each time or bring in a heck of a lot more to make the Y-8 the mining ship of choice.
Well lets hope our correspondent relays the ideas so the devs get a chance to evaluate them ![]()
I would love to launch the Y-8 , travel to a asteroid and mine away ![]()
