Thread: Question for veteran SW

If you only had 8 lots to work with, what kind of harvestor setup would you use for a fairly low-key business? I'd probably only try to stock small things like launchers, packs, and paint/texture kits. Maybe some bigger things every now and then but for the most part the easier assembled items.

The complete resource list for SW looks pretty daunting. Money isn't an issue for buying harvestors but I'm not quite sure where to focus. I know following swgcraft.com for quality resources is a must but what kind of harvestor fleet do you SW veterans try to keep going most of the time.

Thanks

Actually, a better tool then swgcraft.com is Orske's [post-cu] Current Best Resources. That site will give you the best shipwright resources currently spawning on your server. That right there is your best friend when deciding what to harvest.

As for myself, though I wouldn't rate myself a veteran, I do have quite a bit of experience being a shipwright. I try to keep a stock of as much as I can, while limiting it to really good parts. Currently, it's weapons and shields taking the priority, so steel tops the list as a *must have*. If there's not a good (85%+) resource spawning for either of those 2, I'll default to mining steel. As a shipwright, you can never have enough steel. Though, using common sense is good. If the best steel spawning is going to give you a 50% part, but there's some aluminum that's going at 75%, go for the aluminum.

In the end, it's never a bad idea to stockpile, so harvest what you can find to be best at the time. Keep a close eye on that tool, checking it every other day or more. If you see something good spawn, get to it quick. Always helps to have a full set of every type of harvester, which for me is 18 of each, since I have enough lots for that many.

I would recomend placing all 8 of your miners on whatever is of high quality at any given time, selling the surplus, and purchasing the other resoruces you need on the open marked. That seems to work well when you have limited lots, and is a lot less stressfull than chasing down 4-8 different resources.

I would get 8 ber 13 heavy harvesters, 4 ber 13 heavy chem, 4 heavy gas, and 4 fusion reactors to start. The advice given so far is good. You need alot of steel but you will also use a good bit of radioactive. For steel you are looking, for the most part, for conductivity, quality, and toughness. Look through you schematics to get a feel for what you need. There are also specific resources required to make the various subcomponents. These are always available some where in the galaxy and last for around 14 days. Normal resources last around 7 days.

If you are going to be making things that require subcomponents, see what named resources the need. Subcomponents are optional. You do not need to use them to complete the component but you will need them to compete. Most shipwrights do not make parts without them. Track the resource spawns and if something with good stats spawns in, dump all the harvesters you have on them. I too have 18 lots and have 18 of each type of harvester but I have quite a reserve of resources. So, I only harvest high quality stuff. When something good spawns in, I use all my lots on it. If there is nothing good available, I do not harvest because I do not sell resources.

I only have 8 lots to use for harvesting as well. For the last 15 months I have had 8 harvesters going at all times, and now I have a collection of about 150M units of resources that I would consider essential to making quality ship components. The following list summarizes how I use these 8 lots:

  • I really don't have the time to survey every planet every day, so I watch swgcraft.com like a hawk.

  • I split my 8 lots into two 4 lot groups, collecting a different resource with each of these groups of harvesters. However, I make an exception when a rare resource spawn occurs, in which case I put both groups on the same resource.

  • All my harvesters are "heavy" harvesters with a BER of at least 13. This represents a tremendous capital outlay. I have 8 heavy mineral harvesters, 8 deep crust chemical extractors, and 8 heavy natural gas processors. This represents a tremendous capital outlay, but the investment pays for itself in about 2 1/2 months.

  • I do take the time to find a concentration greater than 85%. I have found this isn't always possible, so you have to use some common sense in deciding where to throw down your harvesters.

  • I have 8 self-powered conversion kits. While this is a moderately expensive investment, it saves me from worrying about energy. I don't have to carry around energy or worry about whether the harvester will tap the radioactive I use for crafting. I don't have to spend money on energy for powering my harvesters (which can become quite expensive in the long run). I don't have to worry about using my lots to pull up energy for powering my harvesters.

I have 10 lots to work with. My Jedi holds all my houses.

I run 3 harveys for Radioactive, 1 heavy mineral, 5 medium minerals, and 1 factory at all times, UNLESS, the "uber" steel comes out. Then all 9 lots go to that (I keep my factory running). I have pulled 1 million units of Aluminum in 10 days on just mediums, so I rarely use all harveys on one resource, but steel is a big one that we use for just about everything. I will eventually switch all my harveys to heavy, but for now, my mediums are doing just fine. I like mediums because they have the best cost per unit.

Once you stock up on some Radioactive (500k+), then drop it down to 1 or 2 lots for power and devote the rest to minerals. It's worked quite well for me because I only mine the best and just buy resources I need while waiting for the big resource to come around.

Happy Mining!

FYI... If you didn't know, PE is the key resource of Radioactive for powering your harveys, but look for good OQ when it comes to crafting!

If you do pull you havesters and move them around, I suggest you by the maximum number of each havester that you can put down. If you have say 5 lots. Have 5 Heavy Mineral, 5 Deep Crust Checmical, 5 Heavy Gas Extractor, 5 Fusion Generators. It may cost you a lot to initially get them but will make things more efficient for you in the long run. While the havesters are stored they do not use energy or maintenance. If you find and extremely good resouce at a high concentration, you can maximize your draw by placing the maximum number of harvesters on that spot.

I would get 8 each of at least heavy minerals and fusions. Maybe get 4-6 of heavy chemicals. If a really good steel spawns, you will want all 8 minerals working on it, since as shipwrights we can never have enough steel.

Hell I'd also recommend doing the village and becoming a padawan so you get an extra character slot and the extra lots.

Thanks for all the replies. I just picked up 8 heavy minerals, chemicals, and a few fusions. I'll have to keep an eye on the current spawns to make the rotations as efficient as possible.
