I have just started doing mining in space. I have found a good mining laser and tractor beam. My question is about the cargo hold and the tractor beam. Right now i have 1550 unit crago hold and i did a vendor search for better ones. Best i found were 5000 but it was on the vendor for storage. Can these be crafted by a SW or can better be made and if not were do these 5000 unit crago holders come from a quest ?
Also I am looking into mining as fast as possible and wanted to know if anyone knows how i can do that. I have not tested the tractor beam yet but i am wondering if it'll make things go easier rather then shooting each rock in space?

If you are using a non-POB or Y-8 Mining ship, the limit will be 1550 cargo hold that you can load into your ship.

With the way asteroid resources and crafting are borked, that is the best you are going to find for a starfighter now. POB ships and the Y-8 can take larger ones. The mining laser vs tractor beam debate has been going on since space mining started. Basically, tractor beam gives you something like three times as many resources per small chunk but takes longer to use than just blasting it. I use one myself but others prefer two mining lasers and just blow them up. It is a toss up on which method is the overall fastest.

I haven't done the 2 mining lasers, but I use my crafted laser and my tractor beam and it was at least 4 times as fast than shooting each rock separately. The key is separate the Tractor Beam from your weapon groups so you can keep it on before and duringshooting the medium rock. All rocks will be sucked up immediately, sometimes 1 or 2 escape. Move your ship to suck them in, rinse and repeat. 10 minutes to fill a 1550 Cargo Hold.

The 5000 unit cargo holds are for the Y-8 Mining Ship only. POB ships (like the YT-1300) max out at 3500 units. The best you can do with a starfighter is the 1550 you already have.
As for making mining go faster, a tractor beam will make a huge difference. I use two Mk3 mining lasers and a tractor beam on my Krayt for mining. With Engine Overload 3 and Weapon Overload 3, I can go from launch to landing with a full hold in 12 minutes.

12 min that's pretty good! I have found out about the MK III and Tractor Beam this is what i use now and it's very effective. But how doI get the the overcharged weapon and engine going?? Never did it yet.

He's talking about the Imperial weapon and engine overload droid programs. If you're not Imperial, you can buy them or get an Imperial pilot to program some chips for you. Check out the droid chips category under misc on the bazaar/vendor search terminal.
See A Comprehensive Droid Routine Breakdown for more information about droid programs than you ever wanted to know.
You will probably need to run reactor overload too.

Check this thread out : A Comprehensive Droid Routine Breakdown
This is a great that focuses on the different droid programs (routines) that are possible for the different faction pilots. You can get commands from other faction pilots by having them burn them on a chip for you.

Try one mining laser and 2 tractor beams at WO4
Manage under 10 mins on a regular basis now.
